It will just not mount on my desktop. I have changed cables, connections, and power supplies.

This is the 3rd Lacie hard drive that has done this to me, Lacie never again! Way too unreliable for me and my company.

I have not moved the drive at all.

I had the same problem until I read your comments.  Luckily had an older Lacie 250.  Swapped power supplies and the Lacie 500 is working like a charm.  Thank you!

I'm not sure i can solve this problem--which started for me tonight as well with my lacie d2 quadra 500 gb--but i can share a possible explanation i've found online: apparently, they have lots of problems with their power supplies. see if the power adapter (the black brick) is making a hissing sound, or if there is a ticking sound coming from the drive itself. i have both these sounds. i am hoping all my data is safe and that my i.t dept. will be able to fix it with a new power supply on monday.

well, my problem was indeed a faulty power supply. my i.t dept. tried a couple of lacie power bricks they had lying around, and then took one out of an unopened quadra d2 box, and it worked like a charm. hopefully, it won't repeat.

My Quadra d2 500 shows a blue light and is making a rythmic clunk, not the normal whirr. It does not show up on my desktop - is all lost? I have many photos on it and thought that this was a good professional hard disk. Anyone with a solution?

Hi , you are right, I went to the Mac repair shop, they tested the powersupply, and it didn't supply enough power, it causes the harddisk to make a kind of klicking sound, because it is trying to start up. A new power supply is orderd. They didn't sell them seperate at this shop.

My Lacie driver is no longer acessable

you could send me it lol :)

When you say it gives you a blank window did you leave it for a while - I have to do that with my 500gb hard drive which has a lot of stuff on it and it takes a while to read what it needs to before it shows the files / folders

maybe a defrag if you can get it back up and running and also try it on a different usb port on the back of the same computer it was working on

LaCie HD won't show up on Mac desktop, quit showing up yesterday

Hello! Had the same problem - go onto the Lacie official website. Select whatever type of drive that it is you have, and simply go onto the software update page. I literally downloaded the desktop manager (I own the Sam Hecht Little Disk) and it appeared! Good luck

Not showing up on my desktop

I had this same problem. I you are experiencing this problem and you have a Mac. Go to the LaCie web site there is a firmware update for this drive. Download the firmware update application from the LaCie website, start it and follow the directions. It should fix the problem.

LaCie drive does not come on

Maybe the usb chip in the hard drive enclosure that converts ide into usb failed. You could replace the enclosure (they sell enclosures at best buy) but it could be quite a hassle.

LaCie 500 GB hard Drive - does not register on my desktop

if it is a USB (or you have low disc space), it does take longer to show up on desktop and patience is required... on my iBook it takes over a minute for my Brick to show up... Whether it is USB or firewire, do try another cord (I had similar problem with my lacie firewire external... I used a different firewire cord and all was fine. If you have tried these already, I hope you find the answer... good luck
