PJ458D Displays Multiple Lines and scrambled picture

My projector recently started showing horizontal lines across the screen after it has been on about half an hour. The lines flash on and off and get bigger. It looks like the "white noise" image on your standard television if I leave it on about 45 minutes. I've stopped using it. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

What do you mean by "White Noise" image?

White noise-the image you get when you turn your television to a channel that isn't receiving a signal. Sorry, this is an old term for on-air televisions. Its kinda the same image you get when your DirecTV signal gets scrambled during a thunderstorm.

Take out the comb filter and replace the surface mount electrolytic capacitors on the comb filter and put it back in the motherboard. MCM sells a kit with capacitors that fix this problem.

The frequency, regardless of which color the lines are should be in sync and not have a White Noise image.

In signal processing, a "comb filter" adds a delayed version of a signal to itself, causing constructive and destructive interference. The frequency response of a comb filter consists of a series of regularly-spaced spikes, giving the appearance of a comb.

Since the "electrolytes" evaporate, design life is most often rated in hours at a set temperature.
For example, typically as 2000 hours at 105 degrees Celsius (which is
the highest working temperature). Design life doubles for each 10
degrees lower, reaching 15 years at 45 degrees. Most Electrolytic capacitors are rated for 85 degrees Celsius maximum.

So I have a 50 Lg ( LG 50LN5700). There is still a picture however about every 3 seconds it goes from regular to blurry and repeats. There seem to be about 3 black lines across the top horizontally about 3...

To clarify, are the 3 black lines horizontal (left to right across entire width of screen)? or are the 3 black lines vertical (top to bottom across entire height of screen)?

Horizontal lines are almost always the result of a failed panel, and no board replacement will fix the issue.

Vertical lines such as you have described (only 3) are probably also a bad panel. If the black lines were evenly spaced in a repeating pattern, it could be a mainboard or TCONN board.

Has this panel been cracked? or perhaps cleaned recently with too much water or cleaning solvent that has gotten the screen wet?

You may have to sell the TV for parts.

Horizontal Lines scrolling on screen

I had a similar issue with my Mitsubishi HD 1080. My power supply went out, I had it replaced and it works like new. However, just today I had AT&T U-Verse installed. When the cable guy was showing me the new HD channels all seemed good. This evening (about 5 hours after being installed) I started seeing these horizontal lines across my screen. The picture was still HD quality, but those annoying lines just wouldn't go away. Anyway, after reading a few blogs on-line suggesting interference or bad grounding, it hit me!!! The AT&T guy who installed my U-Verse (cable, internet and phone) had set the modem on top of my TV!!! It was just starring at me this whole time. So I removed the modem off the top of my TV and put it on a side table just to see what would happen and sure enough the lines were gone!!! You may not have the exact same problem, but it may be some type of interference (cell phone, modem, etc, either on top or around your TV that is causing the issue... Hope this helps. Thanks.

Vertical hold circuit is failing.

Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.
