If you have a problem with a USB device, try these methods first:

    1.
Unplug and then plug in the device.

    2.
    If
the computer prompts you for a device driver, read the information that
was included with the device, or visit the manufacturer's Web site to
see whether a driver is available.

    3.
    Run
Windows Update to obtain the latest fixes for Windows XP. When this is
complete, plug in the device to see whether it is installed correctly.

O.k..so heres my problem...i just upgraded to a better video card on my gaming computer...and i wanted to put my old video card on my other desktop...its a compaq evo d51c...but i doesnt fit...i found out...

Hi,

PCI-Express videocards will not work in standard, older PCI slots. They are very different interfaces.

You can find older video cards that are PCI, but they are not very fast and have not been popular for ~10 years.

Compaq presario s4020wm I had unplugged something while the computer was on/ running(DUMB) and it sparked. and then there was no video..I tried a different power box and still no video...So I THINK the on...

do the fans all blow? (all 2 or more) does cd drive eject button work>
if not power is gone.
why not say what you unplugged, so the helper can be on same page as you..>?? why hide key facts?
btw when PC is turned off, it is never off. fully.
we must unplug the power cord, and push the power button
to get the standby power bus discharged, its on all the time.
if fact +_5v-stb is always. on, wall plug connected,.
this is the first step in all desktop service, knowing this or things will blow up, for sure. (hot swapping any part but USB)

that card is blown up or the PC mobo is blown up.
my guess is you hot swapped a PCI card, right? and only the VGA card. right?

old compaq
the support page still is here. (link at end here)
no idea at all what card you have in your hand
it has a name and model number
im reading your service manual on line now(so can you)
and this is a very old COMPAQ, desktop

when you open any DT< side cover, we look at all those slots.
to see what's, there, it can be ANYTHING, or even empty.,
if main board has VGA chip
the manual shows, it has as mobo VGA 19pin connector
try that yet, take out the bad PCI card that sparked.
if this fails, the damage can be very serious
best I can tell this PC is 13 years old or older.
2003 dated, i think...
its is so old it has APG video card slot, yah OLD
AGP x4 x 1
so buy one and try it , off fleabay.

some came with S3 Savage4 pro AGP , new, (options)
S3 is out of business now, (merged)

id ditch it and go to goodwill store find a pc with COA sticker W7
and newer, XP stinks totally. here.
the pc has zero value.. in fact they ship these to 3rd world, for free.
so ebay or newegg. (AGP + XP drivers)

I just purchased a refurbished Compaq Model RB-WA98OUA, and it has no sound, even though the volume is ON and not muted, and the audio driver says it functioning correctly?

Do you have a sound card in the card slot or is the audio part of your board circuitry? Its sounds like you have to go into the BIOS and turn on the sound. Many computers have this type of arrangement.
What probably happened is that the people who had the computer before it was refurbished had added a sound card and shut off the internal sound system in the BIOS.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

I have the mother board of compaq p4d5oo its has the power and running on also but shows no display reasons

Hi- Sorry to hear your having a problem.

Try this
1 - make sure the monitor cable is in and tight and plugged into the power with no wobble.
2 - check the monitor on another pc
3- if on board video make sure the video is 'on' - if a used board sometimes the on board is shut off to allow better communication with an add on card.
4- if an add on card - pull and put it in another slot
5- try another add on video card
6 - try your video card in another machine
7 - take it to staples for a 'tune up' and see what they say - they offer free tune ups and they would soon discover the problem for you and if it is a card they will gladly sell you a replacement,

There is also the ram - please remove all but one stick of ram and try booting the pc - if it works and the monitor works you will need to adjust your ram to something that works.

I hope this works for you and gets you going in the right direction.
Please rate me and let us know if this works.
Thanks

Compaq EVO N1020V Not reporting RAM correctly

This sounds as thought he RAM is faulty.

You need to have installed 2 x 512 MB DDR 266 SoDIMMs and not 1 x SoDIMM.

If you have placed 1 x 1Gb SoDIMM in ther EVO this would account for you only seeing 480Mb of RAM.

Instaling a wireless pci card

First, as this is a type 3 mini pci slot that has your modem installed need to know if under or near the pci modem there are 2 wires with micro mini attach points. these would be the wires to attach the antenna to the wireless card. If there are no wires, then you will have to purchase the antennas as well. Normally these wires run up under the back side of the LCD Bezel.

Sounding complicated yet? Have you considered a USB wireless adapter from Newegg.com, tigerdirect.com,geeks.com,zipzoomfly.com,or e-bay, not to mention local stores.

Expanding RAM on D530 SFF

They go right next to the current ones you have in there. If no extra RAM slots are available, you would have to take out your old RAM to make room for the new ones.

There are typically only 2 or 4 slots for RAM.
