Forgot my password on my sandisk u3 cruzer 4.0gb

You can't, the password is encrypted.

How do I reset my SanDisk Cruzer password?
There is no "forgot password" option to reset the password. If the password cannot be remembered, the files on the drive are not accessible. SanDisk Technical Support cannot provide a new password or alternative method to access encrypted data. The drive can still be used and reformatted by clicking the Erase button.

It doesn't look like this is possible. For your protection, SanDisk did not build in a backdoor or reset feature in the device.

Each U3 smart drive comes with a pre-defined number of login attempts. When you have only 3 attempts remaining, you will receive a warning message to prevent losing your data unnecessarily.
SanDisk does not have any method to bypass the password security feature on Cruzer U3 flash drives. SanDisk has not built in any back door or password reset methods. If the password feature is enabled and you exceed the number of incorrect password attempts, the drive will lock. Once the drive is locked there is no way to unlock the drive or gain access to the data stored on the device. You can only select the format feature, which will perform a secure erase (drive wipe) and data recovery will NOT be possible. I myself have several U3 cruzers and I feel where ya coming from. On U3 launch if you choose the "Forgot Password" option, It will format the drive and reset the password........ BUT! ! ! Despair not my fine Cruzer addicted friend.......
http://LC-Tech.comIt may cost money, But as I said I feel your Pain and I have been there, Contact those people and purchace "Recovery Pro" and any lost data can be retrieved.Another option I am wanting to try is using the U3 uninstaller, which backs up all the data on ur PC when uninstalling U3 and replacing it after. I am not sure if that will work, In theory, I think it might, But dont Quote me...... I can let you know once I try it.

If your cruzer came with U3 then you are in luck. U3 can be set with a password that requires login before any data can be accessed. Just be sure you don't forget the password because it will have to be erased to reset it.

If you locked the drive on the U3 Task bar or menu, form the instant you want to go and use a password for U3, there's a message that state the drive once locked there's no turning point. I have 2GB U3 and go to set-up a password and this is the warning. Sorry!!!

Sandisk offers a program that completely wipes the Cruzer (including the partitioning), turning the drive into a pure unit. This is a permanent solution, and one cannot restore U3 functionality once this has been done. I hate the U3 stuff, so this is something I do with every Cruzer right out of the box.

Doing a search on Google for 'u3 removal' yields a few links, but at this moment, I'm running into a lot of broken links, and the original page on Sandisk's site (where I got the utiliy in the first place) is broken. I use the utility far too much to not be sure of having access to it, so I made sure to have it in my numerous 'essentials collection' CDs at home and work, as well as on my personal page in case I ever was somewhere without the CD.

One note about the version I have.... it is the Windows program, so if you have a Mac, you'll have to go to Sandisk and get the Mac version. I have no idea whether there is an option in Linux, but I'd be surprised if someone hasn't done it. Again, the Google results I got seem to have a lot of potential

Another thing, I have used this program flawlessly on a pile of 1GB and 2GB Cruzers. As far as I know, it will work on other sizes, but just so you're aware, I can't be 100% sure of that.
