Kyocera yashica Tzoom film 35mm camera- I loaded a new battery and the battery icon on the top display panel flashes empty, and camera does not activate. I have tried several batteries without success. Can you help please.
I will be in Japan next week for a few weeks, and wonder if there is still a Yashica service centre in Tokyo ?

There is no langer yashica service center in US. There was one cervice center in NJ. However, they don't have parts. You can try this company is located in NY. www.vlcamera.com. They have some yashica T4 parts.
This also happens to Yashicas often. (though instead of stirpping the film, it will rewind it back into the roll. Something's wrong with either the firmware or the drive system. It'll need to be taken to a camera repair shop, or you'll have to send it back to Canon for warranty service, if it's still within warranty.
Uh, I'm going to ask a silly question and I mean no insult by it, but, uh....you did bring the end tab of the new roll of film all the way over to the winder spool and lay it flat against the gear teeth before closing the back?
According to the manual found here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/manual/ZX50.pdf
It says, "If the film is not loaded properly, 'E' on the LCD panel blinks, indicating that the film is not loaded properly. Open the back cover and load the film once again."
