Shredder refused to power on. No light... nothing.
1st step: (MAKE SURE THE THING IS UNPLUGGED FROM 120 V FOR FOLLOWING STEPS)
So, i dismantled it according to previous postings and inspected visually everything. Nothing had heated, all solderings were OK on the boards. Did few checks on the interlock drawer switch with an ohmeter: tested OK. I removed the 2 screws holding the little board where the power on switch is mounted. Ohmeter said no action across switch prongs when i push the button. I drowned the button with tape head cleaner and activated the button a hundred times. After it dried, i repeated the operation.
It cured the problem. I Dont think these kind of switches can be found... cheap stuff.
Had some problem finding a 10 inches phillips screwdriver to open the case... Electronic store had one...brand is Xcelite.
....have fun challenging those China made gizmos !

There is a 10mm 5amp @ 250v fuse on the main board that is probally blown . I unsoldered mine and soldered a pigtail fuse holder with a convient sized 5 amp fuse inside in its place . The shredder is not too bad to take apart , the head comes apart from the body of the shredder .Turn it upside down and you will see 6 or 7 phillips screws .Once these are removed the head assembly opens up and you will see the circuit board which is held in place by 2 phillips screws. A quick ohm meter test will reveal the fuse condition. It was an easy fix just MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE UNIT UNPOWERED while you work on it or its unassembled.
SOURCE: how to disassemble the mailmate spl-727MM. I
1. Remove the two rubber pads (only two out of four pads with Phillips screw, you should be able to see which two).
2. Use a long Phillips screw driver to remove the two screws
3. You may still not able to remove the the housing because there are double side tapes sticking the front part of the housing to the shredder's base, use a ruler (steel ruler) to detach the tapes
4. You should be able to pull out the housing (the machine should be up-side-down) and you should be able to do what you wanted to fix.
Enjoy.

Hi there,
First of all you try plunging them in to other power board, check the cable and the plug (check if the cable or plug not getting shorted), make sure the circuit breaker for the shredder outlet is on.
tell me is there any humming noise? or any sign of power getting in to it?
Please post back further comments for more information...
Thanks

The screws are inside. Remove the catch bin, flip the shredder over and
note the 6 holes inside. the screws are about 4 inches down. it
requires a long (5-6) inch screw driver (philips #2) and a lot of
patience. Remove the 6 screws and the top lifts right off with the
entire shredding unit and PCB attached. the sensor switch (for the
catch bin) comes off with one screw. the shredder lifts right off the
top, not attached.
Now What? I performed 3 simple tests before disassembling.
1. If you get the blue light when you turn it on. but it goes off when you removed the drawer. then the drawer sensor works.
2. If you turn it on and press the fwd of rev buttons, you should hear
the relays click (power is going to the PCB but maybe not the motor)
3. If you turn it on and slowly slide an envelope in to shred, you
should hear the same relays click inside. (indicates the led sensor is
working, again, power is not going to the motor)
Now I have come to my dilema. there is a fuse on the PCB (i
checked it and it is good (else you wouldn' t get the relays to
energize.) I did find the large (i'm pretty sure its 5 watts) 5WOR6J
cement resistor is open. (the white retangular cube) The problem is I
don't know the value of it and can't seem to cross the part number to
any manufacturer.
If you find this is also your problem and you find a replacement, post it here. Thanks

I've scanned my manual for the SPL-TMC10A. You can find it here: http://bit.ly/pom1I5
