The model number is somewhere, possibly on a plate on the back of the machine or possibly underneath. On older Singers, the model number is represented by the serial number, ie serial # through serial # is a Model 66.
You can try searching the internet for:
White Model# manual
However, with the age, it may be difficult to find anything.

I solved this problem by going to a post on FixYa dated 6/4/08 oor 09 by Timetoknit.
The post mentioned a free download of "White's" Manual that is out of print, at White's sister company "the Singer Sewing Company's" website: www.singerco.com It also gave the download steps. The download steps are on my Solution post.
I downloaded the manual and printed it on 7/30/09.
