Check the door latches that stick out from the door. Push them up. Is there any resistance? If not, then the spring that pulls them downward either broke or came of its catches. You will need to call a repairman who will have to take the door apart and either replace or re-fasten that spring.
were both items the same density? Was one maybe thawed more that the other? A microwave cooks by rapidly heating the water molecules within the product that you are heating. If you heat two of the same product, it should cook them both evenly, however say you put in a frozen hamburger and a thawed hamburger, the frozen one will only begin to defrost while the thawed one will actually cook
If it's less than 5 years old, Sears/Kenmore should cover the part, but you would still have to pay for a service call.

**CAUTION** HIGH VOLTAGE IS PRESENT IN CAPACITORS. THIS COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE YOU. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU ARE INEXPERIENCED! IT IS CHEAPER TO BUY A NEW MICROWAVE THAN PAY FOR AN EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT.
The magnetron probably needs to be replaced. You can test it with these instructions. http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
High voltage parts are suspect. You are looking at
replacing either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and
diode. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on
EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
