It sounds like the DVD drive button is damaged or faulty - I would just continue to use the eject from the Windows, explorer window or have the drive replaced.

SOURCE: I have dual cd / dvd drives on my desktop

your cd drive might just be jammed. on the front of the drive there is a little pin hole. find yourself a safety pin or paper clip and insert it in the hole. push the pin in and it will unlock the drive door. with the door open restart your computer.

SOURCE: Hi, I have a Dell

Take a paper clip and straighten it. Easy goes - insert it in the small hole in the tray, just a little at a time. When you start to feel resistance, gently push a tiny bit more, and the tray will open. But do remember - be careful, don't just jam it in or you may damage your DVD as well as your tray. Sounds like you may need to have a new drive installed.

CD/DVD Drive Tray problems
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc.
If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.

Disc Drive

If the eject button is not working, assuming this is a Windows based computer, click on start icon, your start menu will display, on right side under your user icon you should see Computer or My Computer, click on it.
You will now see all drives in your computer. Right click on your dvd(optical) drive. You should see an eject option.

If this dosen't work, close to the eject button on the drive is a tiny hole that will accept a paper clip, carefully push clip into hole until drive ejects.

Where do I find the eject key to eject a cd from my Dell studio laptop?

Hi,

There should be a button on the DVD/CD drive itself, just push that small button and the tray should eject.
If you can't fine the button double click on "Computer" or "My Computer" highlight the DVD/CD in the list, right click on the DVD/CD and select "eject" from the list.
The tray should now eject.
