After calling SONY support, they wanted me to send the entire system - speakers, cables... Please! That's is dumb, and the rep had to be reading it from a script.
So I managed to get the covers off and figured it out on my own. The drive belt for the CD tray had come off the pulleys. I simply put it back on and... Voila! Saved myself hundreds of dollars for a $2 belt. I called SONY and ordered two spares. Sometimes, if you have some mechanical and basic electrical skills you can save yourself a lot of money and aggravation.
This is a guess. Something has "frozen" stuck while the unit was switched off. If it was subjected to low temperatures or humidity while you were away then putting it (while turned off) somewhere warm and dry may get things moving again.
SOURCE: tv will not come on,
First off what is the exact model of the tv? Secondly do any lights come on at all? Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? then the surge would be covered under that and depending on size of the tv an equivalent size tv it would be worth it to put in a claim. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

protect mode should be reset if the negative of your amp is disconnected then reconnectewd. if it doesnt help, move your ground to a different location. if THIS doesnt help, consider a repair or a new amplifier.

First unplug the unit and press the power button to make sure all the power is out of the unit. Try to take a cotton qtip and clean the lazer lense with alcohol. after wipe it clean with a new cotton qtip to remove the film the alcohol produces. Do not use a lot of alcohol and drip it all inside of the unit though.
Also if you tried a cd-r try a real copy instead. Make sure your cd's are ok.
Good luck.
