Sony MHC-GX450 CD Shelf System Logo
Posted on Sep 22, 2011

My MHC-GX450 worked fine for several years. I just went on vacation for two weeks and before I left, I unplugged it so lightning would not cause power surge damage. When I came home and powered up, it displayed MECHA ERROR. I can't play CDs or open the tray. This is caused only by unplugging the system for two weeks! I did a cold reset. It did not help. Can I open the tray manually to get my CDs out? Can I fix it myself, or do I have to take it to Best Buy or some other place for repair? (Maybe I should never unplug my system to protect it from power surges.) Gary

After calling SONY support, they wanted me to send the entire system - speakers, cables... Please! That's is dumb, and the rep had to be reading it from a script.

So I managed to get the covers off and figured it out on my own. The drive belt for the CD tray had come off the pulleys. I simply put it back on and... Voila! Saved myself hundreds of dollars for a $2 belt. I called SONY and ordered two spares. Sometimes, if you have some mechanical and basic electrical skills you can save yourself a lot of money and aggravation.

Well done and thanks for sharing - that will come in handy when my CD belt breaks.

This is a guess. Something has "frozen" stuck while the unit was switched off. If it was subjected to low temperatures or humidity while you were away then putting it (while turned off) somewhere warm and dry may get things moving again.

SOURCE: tv will not come on,

First off what is the exact model of the tv? Secondly do any lights come on at all? Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? then the surge would be covered under that and depending on size of the tv an equivalent size tv it would be worth it to put in a claim. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

SOURCE: How do I connect ipod to sony MHC GX450

you can buy a Belkin docking station for about $20  or you can buy a headphone to RCA plug connection wire.  I like the docking station as it has a remote and charges the ipod as well.  Shop ebay

SOURCE: LIghtning Audio B300.4 Protect Light

protect mode should be reset if the negative of your amp is disconnected then reconnectewd. if it doesnt help, move your ground to a different location. if THIS doesnt help, consider a repair or a new amplifier.

SOURCE: sony mhc-gx450 cd player is not reading.I used a cd cleaner and d

First unplug the unit and press the power button to make sure all the power is out of the unit. Try to take a cotton qtip and clean the lazer lense with alcohol. after wipe it clean with a new cotton qtip to remove the film the alcohol produces. Do not use a lot of alcohol and drip it all inside of the unit though.
Also if you tried a cd-r try a real copy instead. Make sure your cd's are ok.
Good luck.

My subwoofer for my sony mini component system mhc-gx450 will not work any sugestions???

Is the LED on the front of the subwoofer unit glowing?
If not then check that (a) the plugs are correctly inserted in the two sockets on the back of the the mhc-gx450, and (b) check that the subwoofer is activated on the mhc-gx450 unit.

I have no clue how to hook up my acer computer to a sony mhc gx450. Please include all the wires i need.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-MHC-GX450-manual/id/268ag305/t/2/

Look up "Hooking Up Optional Components" and assess what your PC's audio and video capabilities are that would use the Game Inputs. The Sony end accepts standard RCA pin cables x 3. Adapters are available at any electronics store to match your PC to that. Within the PC you need to configure the audio via whatever Sound Controls are in charge.

Ok i just got the sub from a sony sswg450 i want to know is there some way to hook it up to my Pioneer home Receiver

Did you get a manual with it? According to the Sony site this speaker originates in Sony MHC-GX450.

"This product bundle includes the following models:
HCD-GX450 - STEREO MINI SYSTEM
RM-SC3 - REMOTE CONTROL for Shelf Mini Systems
SSRG444 - FRONT SPEAKER FOR MHCGX450
SS-WG450 - SUBWOOFER FOR MHCGX450"

Find the manual here and learn a bit about your seprated sub...

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=MHCGX450

See page 7.

As can be seen, the subwoofer has two connections to the mothership, very unlike the standard speaker level (+/-) speaker wire or RCA-Line-Level subwoofer out that 'normal passive or active subwoofers use, respectively.

Not knowing which of those your unspecified Pioneer receiver supports, it is impossible to say. Does your Pioneer have that control jack?

Mini-systems are generally not designed to be pieced out and used with grown-up gear. The absence of standardized connections is the clue.

Why do my sony mhc-gx450 cd shelf system power lights keep blinking

This usually indicates faulty wiring, or miswiring. Disconnect the wires, one set and turn the unit off and on to see if that elimates your problem. If it does, the wiring or component is at fault. If you disconnect everything and have the same problem, it's an internal fault with the unit and will have to be troubleshot. Get and estimate first, to evaluate whether or not it's economical to keep, or replace with a new one. Good luck, hope this helps.

How can I get the cd changer to stop changing non stop?

Something is out of timing. When powered up, the unit trys to get to a known state and will continue until it reaches that state. If the timing of the gears has been changed, this may not occur.

I'll try to see if I can create a set of instructions to re-time this.

Sound went out, can't get it back on

This model stereo has problems,to fix it you must unplug it,remove the side panels and you will see a ribbon connector coming from the front panel and going to the side panel circuit board. You must gently unplug this from the side circuit board, use canned air to dust it and the plug itself and replace. You are now good to go!! Hope this works for you,cuz it did for me.
