How to tighten fan belt on 1999 fairmount ghia v8

The cars today do not have belt adjustments they have what is caller a idler pulls that keeps a serpintine belt "all in one belt" that snakes around all the pulleys, thus the serpintine..name..anyway if it is slipping most likely the belt needs replacing or the idler itself is bad..neither can be adjusted..the fix is replacement...your car should have a belt route under the hood showing where it goes and the idler is spring loaded and easy easy to take the pressure off to take the old belt off and replace it..not a big job for garages if you wish not to DIY .good lucK

Battery light comes on when it rains outside.

The surpinetine belt is slipping on the alternator. A high pitch squeal can sometimes also be heard, because rain water is making the worn belt slip. So replace the belt first. Other possibilities are the idler tensioner might be weak, or worst case is the alternator itself. Also check if your battery cable connections are clean and tightened, because the battery may not be getting a proper charge.

On a 2000 plymonth voyager wy does serpintine belt come off when it rains

Because the belt is not tracking straight and water lubricates and helps it skip over the groves.Make sure belt is aligned properly and is inline on all pullys

Cannot get it back on car

Ok. To start with check to make sure all the pulleys, idlers and equip is all there If this car is 1998 Ford Escort with 2.0 L. not ZX2 you should have 6 pulleys. You will need some metric wrenches to move the tensioner pulley. Starting at the bottom this should be the Crank shaft the belt runs on the outside of the pulley . Next to the right should be an A/C and the belt runs on the outside of this pulley next is the idler the belt runs on the inside of this one. top most pulley should be the Power steering the belt runs on the outside of this pulley and goes over to the alternator outside of this one also last is the Tensioner assembly the belt runs on the inside of this one. Now is when you need the metric wrench some are 15mm some are 16mm. You have to move the tensioner pulling to the outside to release the tension and slip the belt on. It may be easier to slip the belt off the power steering and behind the tensioner pulley then release the tensioner and have some one else slip the belt on. sbfd00001.png I Found a picture up it not the right way up the CS is the crankshaft and it's on the bottom picture should be turn 90 degrees to the left.

Serpintine belt keeps slipping off of middle wheel

If the belt keeps slipping off the you need to replace the tensioner(its the pulley you have to move to get the belt on and off,and that part should be inexpensive to replace from any parts store.

Changing the serpintine belt on a chevy

If the belt was slipping or became contaminated with oil or coolant that should resolve the problem. Check the belt tension first before replacing the belt

Serpentine belt keeps popping off

Check alignment of the belt and check the condition of the belt because once it comes off it will continue to come off because the strands in the belt are broken.

Serpintine belt

It sounds to me like the belt tensioner pulley is bad.Its spring loaded and this pulley is what keeps the belt in place.
