I've recently come to the realization that my computer monitor screen is not properly calibrated. In different web forums where photos are posted, I'm noticing that I can't make out a lot of the pictures people are talking about - they're too dark. I've also noticed this when printing out CD covers - detail in the shadows that I never saw on the screen. Also, every time I show people digital photos, I have to turn up the brightness (in Photoshop) to anywhere between 25 - 50 %! Needless to say, I need to calibrate my monitor. For a test, I downloaded one of those "black level" graphs whrere the squares go from dark to light and you should be able to see every square clearly - I can only see half before they disappear into all blackness.

I have one of those old "turn of the century" big Dell Monitors that came with my original computer back in 2000. It has two "select" buttons (- +) and two "adjust" buttons (- +) with a row of icons (showing which parameter you're adjusting) with lights underneath on the left. I know that the "sun" icon is brightness and the "half moon" icon is contrast, but I don't know what the rest are.

After selecting "brightness," I hit the adjust "+" button a couple of times and I expected to see a bar graph showing my adjustment, but there was nothing, so I left it alone. I don't want to screw up my monitor so I want to make sure that I'm doing this right. It says "recall" under the select and adjust buttons with "arrows" pointing to two buttons. I assume that you press these to go back to your default settings.

So, how do I go about doing this correctly? __________________

Deem light in display

Occasionally, you may find your laptop's monitor is too dim for your liking. A normal desktop computer's monitor has an on-board menu system that lets you adjust the brightness and picture control settings as you please. A laptop monitor has no such controls. You can adjust the brightness of your laptop monitor using your laptop's keyboard.

1.Press and hold the "FN" key on your laptop's keyboard. This is the "Function" key, which operates much the same way that the "Shift" key does: It allows keyboard buttons to be used for multiple purposes. It's located in the lower left corner of most laptop keyboards, next to the "Windows," "CTRL" and "ALT" keys.
2.Look at the top row of keys on your keyboard for a key with a tiny triangle pointing upwards and the symbol of a sun on it. This is the "Increase Brightness" key. With the "FN" key held down, press the "Increase Brightness" key. On most laptop keyboards this is the "F7" key, but it varies depending on the model.
3.Continue to hold down the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" key until your dim laptop monitor has reached the level of brightness you require. A laptop monitor can only get so bright. It will stop at its highest setting.
4.Release the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" keys. You have now fixed your dim laptop monitor.

I hope you find it very helpful.

Is there any way to brighten my screen on my acer aspire 5601 lap top

Examine the keyboard. There should be a symbol on most of the function keys (F1, F2, etc.). Look for one that looks like a sun or lightbulb, either with an arrow pointing up or with the sun/lighbulb filled in. Hold the 'Fn' key, and tap the up/bright sun/lightbulb key a few times. The screen should increase in brightness.

If you cannot find the specified keys, you may be able to adjust brightness from inside Windows. Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar and open 'power options'. Look for a sun and moon with a sliding bar between them. You might also be able to adjust brightness by customizing your desktop (right click on the desktop and look for the proper menu).

The monitor screen on the laptop is too dark and and hard to view. what can i do to view it without squinting

On most laptops, there are 2 blue-tinted pictures that may looks like light bulbs or suns located on 2 of the function keys (F1, F2, etc.) that stand for increase and decrease brightness. If you hold the "Fn" key, and start tapping the increase brightness key, the screen should turn brighter. Otherwise, you may be able to adjust screen brightness from Windows, by going to power options (control panel or right click the battery icon in the task bar) or by customizing your desktop (control panel or right click on the desktop).

Brighten or calibrate the screen

You would need to provide much more information. However the button the screen itself should take you into brightness on the lcd.The other way is right click on your desktop and open your video driver and increase brightness from there.

I could not find where i can increase the light

You must find the 'brightness' control. Usually there are buttons on the front of the monitor. You push the left button, move over one button, select brightness, move over one button, and adjust the brightness.

DIM LCD

TWO WAYS TO TURN IT UP
1. Use the menu on the monitor to turn up the volume
2. right click anywhere on the desktop- select properties - select the "settings tab" at the top - click on the "advanced" button. this will open your video cards display settings .
you will need to look for a brightness controll or color corection section to adjust the brightness as all video cards have different software for controll.
Gamma will increase you brightness also. a ballance od gamma and brightness is neccessary, so change em both small amounts , then check your desktop or applications, then re-adjust.
This should Fixya up ! Please rate.....
