Hi Guys, The flexi ribbon connector that sits on top connecting the screen on my Panasonic Viera 50" plasma has cracked leading to a 2" wide black line running down the centre about 12" long. Anyone know what the name is for it/Part number/ Or where I can get 1 from? I have systematically gone through taking the boards off hoping it would be a dry solder joint but alas I found this last night ;-( Any ideas please or if anyone has spares to sell. Cheers, Gordon.

You should call for warranty service. If the set is very new try to get it exchanged.

There are some very heavy duty power supplies and many high power matrix drivers used in Plasma sets.

The description sounds like the noises are very loud. It is normal with any of these TV sets, if you put your ear right up to the back of the set at the vent holes you will hear some noises. These would be some acoustic harmonics from the power supplies and related circuits.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something that is becoming less stable. If the set is working very well without any failure, so-far this is a very good sign. Before it gets to be a problem, I would have this checked.

On many models of these sets, they use fans for cooling specific areas. A bad fan can cause noise.

SOURCE: 2 yr old Panasonic Viera 37 in - has very narrow

This is a fault developing within the screen, the only remedy is to have the screen replaced, there is no exact answer to why this has happened, it is just the nature of a plasma screens make-up that sometimes a fault can develop like this within the characteristics the display

Testimonial: "Thanks. Might have to live with it as it sounds expensive to replace!"

SOURCE: solid black vertical line

You could have one of three problems. One is really expensive to fix and you might want to trash the set. Thats if the panel is bad. Secondly, it could be a buffer board that went bad. Not as expensive as the panel. Finally, it could be the connection between the two. I would first take the back off and locate this board. Undo the ribbon cable2_bing.gif and clean it off a bit and put it back. If its still there, you have a deeper problem.

The buffer boards are located across the bottow when you take the back off. About 3 inches wide. Sometimes they are on the top as well.

Yes you can connect your Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U Plasma TV to your computer. You will need to buy an hdmi to vga cable in order to connect your vista desktop to your tv.

Panasonic plasma screen

If you are talking about a tiny crack in the screen itself you are done.

The Plasma display Panel (PDP) is a sealed unit with an inert gas inside--even a tiny rupture is fatal= cost of the panel alone will exceed the price of a new set.

Can i connect my panasonic viera th-42px8ou plasma tv,to my vista desk top? my tv has hdmi on it,my vista tower also says it has 1 hdmi connector on the back of it

You can buy an HDMI to DVI adapter (around 20$) to connect your HDMI computer cable to your TV. You will need separates audios cables, right and left, to bring the sound to the TV.

hi all .ive had the same problem,a thick black line down screen.sometimes it flickers from top to bottom and other permantly in view.but i have solved it.forget your ic boards and taking apart tv.have you got either a ps3 or wii connected to tv.if so unplug power lead from socket and relocate in seperate socket.make sure the lead is completely free of any other leads and you might just find this works.i think the power lead creates some sort of frequency that the tv picks up .good luck hope it works

Black vertical bar starts 11" from left, approx 3" wide and goes from top to bottom. Replaced TNPA4441 board, no fix. Disconnected ribbon to that section of plasma screen and bar turns white with color...

Since you've replaced the C2 buffer board and didn't fix it. It's very unlikely but possible that the D board is defective. Visually inspect the solder joints on the D connector or try to press slightly on it; if pressing the connector works then there is a loose or cold solder joint on the D connector.
The screen should be replace since still under warranty. The price for a new screen might exceed the price of the plasma, even if you pay for labour still something to decide whether to fix or not.
Try contacting panasonic and ask them nicely if they would be willing to cover the labour cost as well.
Good Luck.

Panasonic viera with vertical lines down the screen which change colour randomly

Either the buffer board is bad or the plasma panel, sometimes it coult be bad connections on the interconnect ribbon cables from the plasma panel to the buffer boards.

Half the screen is black - the right side . The left side looks normal. everything else seems fine. It is a panasonic viera TH-42PX60U

Hi there! Your fault seems like the (From the back) Left X-Drive Board. Perhaps you can check for bad cable connections. Be careful not to damage the flexible ribbon cables as they tear easily. These boards are located on the top and bottom of the screen.(2 narrow boards, connected to one another) The narrow ones on the side are the Y-Drive boards and is not the fault. Best Wishes and Good Luck. JUS004
