SOURCE: Connecting issues with wireless mode on WRT54G2

You may set Wireless security of the router to WPA Personal instead. Since it is the supported wireless security of your laptop. If the router is set to WEP then WEP must be set in the laptop as well. But if WEP is not supported by the laptop anymore, then might as well, set WPA Personal to the router.

Hope this helps!

You have set up the security on the router itself so that nobody can steal your signal. When you did this you made up your own key/pass phrase. If you go back into the setup screen for the router you can look under the wireless tab then click on wireless security. Depending on what security you set up be it WPA Personal, WPA Enterprise, WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Enterprise or WEP it will show the shared key that you made up. You must enter this key in on your laptop EXACTLY how it is typed in the box in the routers information page.

Press the reset button on the router, and hold that like about 20 seconds.

That will return all factory settings.

Hi

The Router configuration is not that much difficult, only few thing you have sure,
1) Correct ADSL Connection User name & password,
2) Chose unique ip address in All host.

Follow the mention bellow instruction to configure and connect to Wifi Router,

  • Plug the network cable ( Mine was Blue ) which comes with the Router Box pack to your computer. The other end goes into any of the Router Ethernet Port ( 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 )
  • Now type in 192.168.1.1 in IE or Firefox or any browser. You will prompted for password which is admin. You must be logged into Linksys Router.
  • Now since your ADSL modem is also having the same IP , we will change the IP address for WRT54G2 Router to 192.168.5.1
  • Under Setup >Basic Setup look for Network Setup and Change Router IP. Change to 192.168.5.1 and Save changes.
  • Since the IP has changed you will need to close the Browser.
  • Sometimes the IP doesnt change automatically. Do a IPCONFIG / RELEASE and then IPCONFIG / Renew

The router is blocking access to one computer asking for a network security key which is apparently different from the password. How do you find the security key?

Hi camavery,

If you want to the security key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security and under Security Mode you can see the Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. You can personalize the Network Key so that you can easily remember it. Then Save the settings.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

I cant access my router

192.168.1.1 is the router's Ip address which will take to you to its ADMIN console. Defualt username is: admin and password is: password or admin. Try these. Once logged in you can then configure the router as required. Dont forget to set the WEP key to make your wireless network secure. WRT54G2 is the name of your router which is sending you the request to fill in the login details.
