My computer keeps showing blue screens, and my software is corrupted. How can I restore my files without the WINDOWS XP CD?

I have never used one as I have my own boot disc.

Could possible be a conflict between software on the computer. If it is doing it with movie maker then it could be another program that shares codect's, files etc with it.

Also to check would be the obvious - spyware, virus etc.

If the computer comes up clean and you have only had this problem the last day or so then maybe a system restore if atall possible and see if that helps.

This file could either be corrupted that is why you can see a Blue screen, if you did try install a recent software, try to uninstall it first or use System Restore. This should fix the problem:

For windows XP
1. Click Start
2. Click Programs, and then accessories
3. Click System Tools and open System Restore

Just restore/select a date wherein the computer was working fine and it will restore all the settings on that date.

The operating system is corrupted you have reinstall you windows xp , you have insert the xp boot cd in the cd rom after that the option will be aksing to (press any key to boot from cd..) at that time you have press any key then the booting will be started.

Use partion magic software to partition your drive.You can dowload it for free.

your in windows xp and youre try to install sp3 from a disk i take it.
either the disk is corrupt,missing files or wrong version .causing blue screen.(fatal exception)
you could try leaving the disk in and reboot ...
when in windows select run D: or what ever letter is assigned to cd drive .( start , run , type in d: and enter)
this will show files on cd/dvd. drag and drop the .exe program into a file or on desktop and try to run.if it runs the cd/dvd is the prob (corrupt,virus,missing files.) if it does run its the software incompatable or faulty(incomplete files or wrong version)
either way the cd will be useless.
you can download sp3 (free)as long as you are using a registered os.

Issue : Blue screen - Missing HAL.DLL error message
Solution :
1) Insert your windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.
2) Restart your computer.
3) Press the F12 key to access the one time boot menu.
4) Select Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive.
Press any key when prompted.
5) The Windows XP Setup will launch.
6) Press R to choose the Repair option and enter recovery console on the Welcome to Setup Page.
7) bootcfg /rebuild
8) Enter Y and press enter
9) Type Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition.
10) Type /fastdetect
11) Type Exit

Use the Recovery Console Tool
To restore a damaged registry hive, use the Recovery Console to restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder. The Repair folder contains a copy of the system's registry hives that were created after the first successful startup of Windows XP.

WARNING : Although data should not be affected by the following procedure, you may need to restore changes you previously made to programs or system settings since the first time you successfully started Windows XP.

To replace the damaged registry hive and restore the backup copy of the hive from the Repair folder: Start your computer to the Recovery Console.

Determine if the file that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article is present, and if it is, rename it:

In Recovery Console, change to the c:\Windows folder.

Type cd sytem32\config , and then press ENTER.

Type dir system , and then press ENTER.

If you cannot run the preceding command successfully (because the file is missing), skip to step 3. If you can run the preceding command successfully, type ren system system.bak , and then press ENTER.

NOTE : If the message that you received referred to the software file, replace "system" with "software" in the preceding command. For example, you would type ren software software.bak (instead of ren system system.bak ), and then press ENTER.

Type copy c:\windows\repair\system , and then press ENTER.

you have a corrupt driver, try a system restore to a day before this happened as you may have updated a driver which is not compatible from microsoft with automatic updates, or it's because of software that has recently been installed
