I am not sure which flame you hear light. The pilot light flame or the burner flame? In any event, the burner and the pilot assembly need to be cleaned. Insects love to build nest in these types of heaters, when they're not in use. When that happens, the pilot and/or the burner get's clogged.
A shop vac with a hose and brush attachment work well in cleaning the heater parts. Canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) does well in blowing out the pilot tip and around the entire pilot assembly.
Be sure to turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose and remove the tank, before attempting to clean the unit. When you replace the tank and reconnect the hose, be sure to open the gas tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion slow).
Hope this helps you solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.
