I will go through the process of setting up sound on your computer
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
if his does not fix the problem
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar for any further volume control settings you will need to right click on the volume icon system select adjust volume

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check

I can not get any sound coming from my hp dimension 8400. How do I check the drivers/software is operating properly?

This the route for winXP, other versions should be fairly similar.

RMB click "My Computer"
LMB Click "Manage"
LMB Click "Device Manager"

You should see a list of devices, scroll down those, any which have a red X on have been disabled any with a yellow ? have a driver issue.

In have an new HP and instulled Audio Audition 1.5 while in multitrack view and am trying to record, I get a "Device ID out of range message" I've tried mostly everything.

Wow, it sounds like you didn't set up a device in the mixer for stereo input, or Adobe deadpanned that you wanted to record mic in and didn't ask to fix that going into multitrack. I've seen that often enough teleconferencing from WinXP swapping audio devices in and out, but by Windows 7 and 2011...this is a surprise. Just activate the appropriate line in in the input mixer in Windows (or more likely, your multitrack input mixer's controls.)

Surely this isn't it, and Adobe wants you to walk through the input level test modules first?

Need a wiring diagram for connecting KOSS HD 50 COmputer speakers

Hello there! lellya
First,
1) you have to tell , what kind of sound card you got? on board audio? A7, or Creative Audigy? 5.1 or regular.
2) then, you have to connect one speaker to the other, one two way connector cable, for the 2 KOSS speakers.
3) another cable that goes in back of your koss and from the out of your KOSS Speakers to the input of your sound card, at back of your PC, this input is your sound card jack.
4) its supose to work like so.
good luck

There are no active mixer devices

Sounds like you might just need the drivers restored for your sound card.

Try downloading the driver for the sound card by clickingon this link

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_splash?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=57707

If that doesnt fix it you migh have the device disabled in the bios.
Try the drivers first then let me know if it works and we will go from there
