Craftsman LT 1000 mower
I am having problems with i stalling out afer cutting grass or running a few minutes.
I have drained the gas, replaced with new/fresh, assured oil level correct, replaced spark plug, and a new battery was bought in the spring. Sometimes it will restart after sitting a few minutes, sometimes not.
? the carb, fuel filter? I have just learned there is a hole in the gas cap for breathing. Is hat a possibility? Clean or purchase new one?
Re: Craftsman LT 1000 mower I am having problems with
I would suggest checking the coil. I would time with a watch how long it takes for the engine to stall. Is it roughly the same time every time- as soon as the engine gets hot?

Sounds like you installed the blades backwards, so the blunt edge of the blades are hitting the tall grass. This would cause the engine to bog down and almost die.
When replacing blades, always note the direction of the cutting edge. If possible, take a digital photograph of the old blades so you can refer to the picture so you can be sure of the direction.
If you go to Sears.com and search your model number, you should be able to find an owners manual that tells you how to install the blades.
Went out to cut grass and the blades will not engage and when I put it in gear it does not move. Belts are intact. I cleaned the deck of dirt and grass. Still nothing. Just replaced the cable to engage the blades last year. Cable seems to be working.
Check the air filter and replace it if it is dirty. Also, get a product at an auto parts store called seafoam, a carbeurator cleaner, and add it to your fuel at the rate of one ounce per gallon of fuel.
THE answer that FINALLY worked for me. Torque the bolt that holds on the blade to the recommended torque specified in your owners manual (for my Exmark this torque is 120 ft-lbs). When I first used the torque wrench, i was quite surprised by the amount of addional force I needed to apply to reach 120 ft-lbs Exmark blades have a round blade hole with a washer and therefore, relies only on friction provided by torquing bolt to the proper torque to prevent slippage so that the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle. When slippage between the blade and spindle occurs, blade tip speed slows leaving uncut grass. Note: this solution will NOT work for mowers with a blade and spindle design which uses a positive means (e.g., a star shaped hole on the blade) that assures the blade rotates at the same speed as the spindle with no slippage.
