My danby dehumidifier is about 5 months old. For the first couple of months, everything was working fine. Then, at random times, the red light would come on for no reason that i knew to troubleshoot. I use the bucket for water collection. When it fills up, the red light comes on as expected, i empty the bucket, then i place back. I turn the humidifier on and just a few hours into its operation (random), the red light comes on. The bucket has not shifted, nor has it collected enough water. There is some water in it from having been running a couple or more hours, but the bucket is nowhere near full. It doesn't do this every time, but it is consistent in doing it randomly. Any reason anyone know of that this might do this? Could it be a faulty sensor? When i place it in cleaning mode, it seems to help, but no true way of knowing. I've put on self-clean mode and STILL the light would turn on.
Ideas for troubleshooting this issue?
Thanks in advance!
I have a DDR4588EE (same model with 45 pint capacity) and had the exact same problem. It's caused by the float at the top of the bucket being in poor contact with the "full" detector button. When the bucket is not full, the float on the bucket is supposed to press against the button. When the bucket fills, the float is supposed to push up off the button which causes the unit to stop and the red light comes on. The problem is that for some reason, the float isn't pressing hard enough against the button to push it properly in when the bucket isn't full. I fixed it by sticking a few little squares of duct tape (3 or 4 layers) on the float to make it press the button more firmly. Seems to be working fine now. Careful not to put too much tape or it might press too firmly which would result in the float not releasing the button when the bucket is full, and water will spill over.

The
compressor relay's purpose is to start the compressor. A faulty relay
can result in the compressor failing to cycle on. The relay is accessed
from the lower rear of the humidifier.
Before testing a compressor relay, unplug the refrigerator to avoid
an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor,
it must be discharged first to avoid the risk of electrical shock.
The compressor relay can be accessed by removing the terminal cover
box. The cover is held on by tension or with a retaining clip.
Hi,
There are many reasons why a dehumidifier will not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier

I have a DDR3008EE model and it worked fine after I purchased it in May 2008. The red fill light recently began to come on randomly and now it will not work at all. The light comes on within seconds after starting it up.
Hi,
thanks for the great response! That seems to make all the sense in the world. I wasn't very familiar with how the float functioned. I assumed that maybe the float was sticking due to a minor amount of humidity building from the bucket (since i fill the bucket, instead of connecting to a pump), especially after having the water dumped. So, not being familiar either with what the ''cleaning'' function does, i proceeded to clean every time i re-installed the bucket. I figured cleaning removes any remaining moisture in the dehumidifier, at least initially. This seems to have ''fixed'' my problem. I did this procedure for maybe 10 times or so before i quit doing. Since i quit, i've run it normally, and have had no further problems with the light coming on when it really shouldn't. Like i said, it generally came on more as soon after i'd re-install the bucket after dumping the water.
Bottom line, can't say how and if my solution helped. If i get back to random red light issue, i'll definitely try bigbohab's idea with the duct tape.
