OK, this one's a few years old. First, of course, disconnect power to the machine. Second, remove the two phillips head screws, one at L and one at R near the bottom corners of the front panel. Third, pull the bottom of the front panel toward you and unhook it from the dryer's top. Swing it to the side. You do not have to disconnect the wires to the door switch. Fourth, remove the four 5/16 hex head screws holding the drum supports and set it aside. Fifth, put belt around the drum. The smooth side of the belt touches the drum. Sixth, belt goes to the motor drive pulley and then around the belt tensioning idler pulley. Seventh, put the drum support part back on and turn the drum by hand to make sure the belt tracks OK and has no twists in it. Eighth, finish reassembly and test. Note: genuine Maytag belts usually have installation instructions on the back of the package, with a couple diagrams.

Belt installation is too loose on Maytag dryer model # pye2300ayw? Trying to fix it need a diagram??

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
If the belt is loose it is most likely stretched / worn and should be replaced:

The idler (item5) of this drawing:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=630165#d630165

See routing here: http://www.repair-help.com/kb/index.php?article=105

The drive belt is item 5 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=695560#d695560

The top must be opened and the front panel removed to install the belt.
Here is a link to step by step "how to" instructions.

Make sure to inspect the rear drum rollers while you have the dryer open. Item 7 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=695560#d695560
Flat drum rollers or hard to turn rollers will cause the new belt to fail prematurely.

Additionally if the front or rear drum seals are worn it can cause the belt to be loose. These are glued on with high temp adhesive.
The front seal is item 10 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=28505910#d28505910

The rear seal is item 2 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=28505913#d28505913

High temp adhesive: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4284239

By replacing the items above your dryer will operate like new again and extend the life of your dryer by many years.

The barrel doesn't turn

This dryer is belt driven. You did not mention if the motor was running or not but, I am going to assume that the motor is in fact running and the drum is not turning. There is not a belt safety switch on this dryer so if the belt breaks the motor will run but the drum will not turn.

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

How do I replace the dryer belt on a maytag dryer model #pye2300ayw. How do you connect to the pulley and get the belt around the drum?

lift the hood by pushing in clip on either side. remove two screw at top inside to remove front. unplug first. thats as far as we go there. remove belt out of dryer. take new belt and put on drum groove side down, get it uniform around drum. putting belt on pulley might be easier to do from behind for you. two screws to remove small access panel.take belt under pulley and over and around motor pulley. turn drum slowiy to make sure belt is not twisted. this belt can only go on a couple ways and one is obviously wrong. good luck.

Help Changing Belt on Maytag PYET444AYW dryer

Normally if it is a front loading machine then you need to take the front of the dryer off.
This will expose the drum, roller, etc.
Remove the drum, install new belt on the motor pulley, loop around the idle arm roller, then install on the drum and reinstall the drum, reinstall the front and job complete

Maytag dryer make very loud 'tumbling', thumping noise but the drum isn't turning. We just replaced the belt and all the wheels and pully's 'appear' to be in good shape. Help.

If you just replaced all that then maybe you dont have the drum put back in there correctly. alternately sometimes the fins on the inside of the drum are not tight and shift and make noise as the drum turns. You tighten those on the outside of the drum. Make sure you put the belt on right. The blower wheel may have worked itself loose. Make sure the belt is on right and the drum was not put back in backwards. Check that, if the other doesnt work. Last but not least I have seen on some Maytag brands the seam on the drum was not welded right and it popped opened/no longer seamed togerther...check that as well.
