In case you haven't done it already, please connect the monitor to the computer and turn everything on and let it boot up. While the screen is black, take a flashlight and carefully hold it against the screen. If you can see that the LCD portion of the screen is working, then continue reading. This model seems to have a number of complaints against it. That being said, many people seem to believe that caps become swollen just because that's what they do. In my experience, for multiple caps to swell or need replacing, it takes a long duration over-current event or a short duration death event. The most common long duration over-current event in a monitor is burned bulbs and/or burned transformer. The most common short duration death event being a power surge (blackouts, lightning, or connected to the same breaker as an air conditioner or microwave) If you have successfully replaced the caps, then you already show some technical prowess. Search your main board model number for some more info. If you can read the tiny part numbers on the transformer, search for a datasheet to find a way to test it with a meter. Bulbs are a bit harder to do. I've done it, but it is almost impossible to keep even a single speck of dust from entering the insides. If you get to the bulbs, and they are blackened on the ends, you can be fairly certain that they are burned and creating an over-amp condition in the driver circuits. Best of luck to you.

Mag LT916S Blank screen after start up

How do you know that your LCD is the real root cause of this issue? I suggest you try to use a KNOWN GOOD MOnitor/LCD to confirm it first.

LCD goes black after few minutes

I would suspect the capacitors on the power supply board. Other sites show that power up problems are due to the aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board being defective. Replacing the four 470uf 25v capacitors (470 micro farad, 25 volt) on the board usually fixes the problem. Sometimes also the two 1200uf 25v capacitors could be the culprit. I suggest changing them all. The price is about $7 for the parts online at Mouser electronics plus $7 shipping. I just fixed mine. I bought two 1200uf 35v capacitors, Mouser part number: 647-UPJ1V122MHD6 and four 470uf 25v capacitors Mouser part number: 661-EKY250ELL471MH2 These are slightly larger than the originals but still fit and they were in stock. You will then have to open the unit (relatively easy) remove the power supply board by removing four screws and disconnecting the connectors (Make a note of wire colors and where the connectors came from before removing). Then you will need to remove the old parts by desoldering them and then solder in the new parts (somewhat easy if you have soldered before)

Black screen

It is most likely that the filter capacitors on the power inverter board have failed. I took mine apart and found seven swollen capacitors on the this board, they fail prematurely and seem to be the only thing wrong with the unit. I replaced them and now it is working just fine.

six 470uf 25v electrolytic capacitors and one 220uf 25v Capacitor.

you should not attempt to repair this yourself unless you have some electronics training since there is a shock hazzard involved and also these capacitors will blow apart if they are installed incorrectly (very messy experience).

Can I use a higher voltage capacitor

yes, its safe, if working volt is 35 and capacity is 470uf, thats fine.

Mag 17" goes black, changing capacitors but 4 are 1000uf instead of 470.

Replace the caps with the correct picofarad ratings. IE if you take out a 470, then put a 470 back in. Also note the voltage on them. You can go higher, but do not go lower. So if they are 470 16v (16 volts), then you can use 470 25v (25volts) etc. Just don't get them mixed up.
Best option is to replace all of one rating, then all of the other. Also note the stripe on the side of the capacitor. This indicates negative and should match up to a circle printed on the board (probably hidden under the current capacitors) with a light side and a dark side. The negative (stripe) on the capacitor goes to the dark side of the circle.

The burn marks are quite common. It's from heat being transferred through the PCB to dissipate it.

If you are unsure about any of this then just post back here.

MAG LT916 lcd monitor wont power up

I'm afraid there really isn't much i can say about removing the cover but will say that it sounds like its toast and opening up the back is only going to confirm the fact that you really don't have any idea what's in there...lol...sorry to shoot it straight but I've been there. Start shopping. Good luck

Monitor blacks out after length of use

Well, first of all. Do not open it if you do not have any knowledge of what you are doing. Because it will probably make it worse. Second, trying different monitor cables will not help either. I had the exact same problem, and I tried everything possible. After a while it stopped working all together. Showed the screen for one second and blacked out after that. No matter how long I let it be turned off. You should probably hand it in to a repair shop or buy a new one. I did the same thing myself and ended up buying a new one. You could also let the monitor stay on, the next time and never shut it off :P.
