The pause light is blinking, the machine is beeping; I have turned it off and held down the font and condensed buttons and turned the machine back on, that allowed me to print one label. There are lots of lables in the machine - I use this printer every day for mailing letters. Now we are back to square one. No printing at all, just beeping and blinking!
Probably needs a good cleaning - with a vaccuum and some compressed air.
Dot matrix (impact) printers usually have a couple of optical sensors - disks with holes in them - to let the printer know where the head is, how fast it's moving, if it jams, etc.
If there is too much dust, dirt, or bits of paper interfering with the beam of light passing through the rotating disks, most printers will stop and indicate some sort of error, rather than force the motor - which may damage the plastic teeth on the gears.
