This sounds very like you've got an insulation breakdown in the heating element, or in the wiring that leads to it. When the water level gets high enough, the machine switches the heater on to start warming things up - at which point the fault gets taken into circuit and blows everything. You already know all the stuff about switching off and unplugging before you start. If you hadn't just been working on the machine, I'd have said just to lash out £23 on spec. and fit a new element. Under the circumstances, it might be worth doing a few checks first: 1. Although you're sure you've replaced all the wires correctly, just triple-check you haven't swapped live and earth at the element. 2. Inspect the wires that run to the element to make sure none of them are chafed or trapped, and that none of the connectors are fouling anything they shouldn't be. 3a. If you can get hold of an insulation tester, use it to check the element earth-live resistance (with all wires disconnected). This should be of the order of a Megohm or more - but will be much less if the element casing has leaked. 3b. On the assumption you haven't got an insulation tester in your back pocket, try this instead: Carefully disconnect the live wire from the element, make it safe with tape if you need to, then try to run the machine. If the machine now fills properly without taking the trip out, then this is a pretty good pointer towards needing a new element. A.

First unplug your washer. Check the ground on the washer and make sure it isn't loose; this would be a good time to inspect the wiring harness for any problems. Next check the outlet (turn off the electric to that breaker first) make sure all the wires are tight and are making good contact; pay special attention to the neutral (white) wire. If that seems fine, and you are comfortable with going into you breaker panel, turn off that breaker and check the hot (the wire on the breaker) to make sure it isn't loose and then check the neutral wire. If either of these wires seem loose tighten them down....a loose wire will move when a load is put on it and cause the breaker to trip. If all seems normal and washer is still tripping the breaker you might want to replace the breaker.....they can go bad. Good luck!
SOURCE: why does my washing machine trip the electric
Someone with a wattmeter needs to read the wattage load by the machine when washing. If the running load is greater than the rated load of the machine, then the problem is likely the motor itself or the drum bearings are going bad. If the electrical load is normal, then the breaker in the house electrical panel is either under-rated, or the breaker is defective. If the breaker is a 'ground fault' type, the washer may have current leakage to ground causing the breaker to trip. Another possibility is that there is another outlet that is on the same circuit and the combined load trips the breaker. Shut the breaker off and try any other sockets in the area to see if they went dead too. Hope this helps!

Power off the mains. The
filter is located behind the silver plate at the back of the machine at
the
bottom. Four screws hold it on. Drain
out all the water. The filter is inside
the big black rubber hose attached between the pump and the main drum.
Remove
the plastic clip holding it to the pump unit and then the metal cir clip
holding it to the main drum. Inside is a white molded cone and a big
white ball
which floats. You will find a lot of junk here, clean out thoroughly. To
refit
put white cone back inside just as you found it, at the bottom, fit ball
back
into the cone. Attach to the bottom to the drum and re-fasten the cir
clip.
Finally reconnect the gator to the pump unit and tighten the plastic
clip. Check out the pump too before reconnecting.
