Cannot call out. I pick up the handset, press "talk". The dial tone comes on and then clicks off. Then there is no response to the "talk" button again, to turn it off. This is not a new phone, and was being used by someone else, but it got packed up when no longer needed. I have tried the trouble shooting guide, but there is nothing there. I have hit all kinds of buttons. I just don't know where to begin.

SOURCE: handset has No link to base

I was having the same problem with the same model phone, and fixed the problem by rebooting the phone – unplugging the AC and phone cord from the base station and plugging both back it, then removing and replacing the handset to regenerate the security code.

SOURCE: Handset ?No Link To Base? error and no dial tone

2/29 Have you registered or re-registered the handset?
"No link" can mean handset is not accepting radio wave of base unit. At Mfgr website pull-down operator's manual and look for registration instructions. Some sequence of buttons will create a radio signal from base (have handset off base) then another sequence of buttons on handset will accept radio signal. If handset has "menu" button, try "menu", then "00" (zero zero) then select an accept or "OK" button. Good luck.

SOURCE: GE 25942 dial tone problems

After waiting for over 24 hrs for an answer from FixYa and then they wanted $10.00 and trying to fix it myself, I gave up. Threw all that c$$p into a box, took it back to the store and got my money back. It just wasn't worth the time and aggravation.

SOURCE: my second handset is disfunctional

you have to put the second handset on the primary base for about 20 seconds for it to accept it, then you will get a tone and everything should work fine from there.

Why has the phone reversed, dial tone works only when phone is hung up why?

If I understand you correctly, when you leave the handset in the cradle and press a line, you can hear the dial tone. But, if you lift the handset and then select a line you don't hear anything through the headset. If this is correct, I suspect the handset is damaged, the cord is damaged, or if you're lucky, the clips may not be plugged all the way in on both sides. If you have another phone that is the same, you can switch handsets to test this theory.

I have a D1680 system with one accessory handset. The hand set on the base is showing Searching although it is on the Base. It rings when a call comes in but when picked up it says out of range. The...

1. Press & hold End and # at the same time until you see the System Reset menu.

2. If you still have the base the handset is registered to, select Deregister HS, then select the handset you want to reset. If you don't have that base anymore, select Base Unavailable.

3. To confirm, select Yes. The handset displays "Handset not registered"

Now you want to register the phone again.

1. Place the handset in the base; the display should say Handset
Registering.

2. Wait until the display says Registration Complete (about 30
seconds), then pick up the handset and press Talk/flash.
You should now have a dial tone

The handset for this unit registers automatically to the base. The main base sync with the handset but it does not respond. The handset that is not responding has a problem and should to be replaced. You can pick one up on eBay for a few bucks.

I need to know how to program the numbers into the speed dial option. My mother's phone is a table set with large numbers #29267A ... close enough?

Before you store a telephone number in memory, make sure the dialing mode is
correctly set for the type of service you have. The default dialing mode is tone
(touch-tone), so if you have pulse (rotary) service, you must first change the dialing
mode. See “To Set the Dial Mode.” The following buttons can be stored into any
memory location: 0-9.
STORING FREQUENTLY CALLED NUMBERS
1. Pick up the handset.
2.Press the store button.
3. Push the desired memory location button.
4. Press the store button.
5.Use the handset number keys to enter the telephone number (up to 16-digits)
and press the store button.
6.Hang up the handset.
NOTE: If you make a mistake, use the delete button to delete wrong digits.
CHANGING A STORED NUMBER
Repeat the storage sequence above. The new number replaces the old number at
the memory location.
ERASING A STORED NUMBER
1. Pick up the handset.
2.Press the store button.
3.Press the memory location (0-9) to be erased.
4.Press delete for three seconds until the number in the display is erased.
5.Hang up the handset.
DIALING FREQUENTLY CALLED NUMBERS
1. Pick up the handset and press the mem button.
2. Press 0-9 for the memory location. The number dials automatically.
OR
1. Pick up the handset and press the dial button.
2. Press the review button for the desired memory location.
3. Press the dial button to dial the number.
OR
1. Press dial button while the handset is still in the cradle.
2. Press the review button for the desired memory location, lift the handset and the
number dials automatically.

Problem: Busy/No Response on all outgoing faxes

Put the document you want to send into the transmit tray, pick up the handset, listen for a dial tone, and then dial the # on the keypad..
It should ring just like any other phone. When the machine on the other end picks up and you hear the tones, press the start button.
Anything other than fax tones on the other end, it is not your faxes fault.
