I believe the 7040 is identical to the Nakajima AE-740 If so there is a black lever at the L. end of the platen, push it down to release the platen. You can get a manual @ NADIST.COM click on current models.

If you can remove the platen, roller, you may find a label stuck on the deflector. Remove the label from the deflector. Make sure the deflector is installed properly.

I am trying to type on labels but I cannot get the typewriter to grab the paper, so I keep typing on top of the same letters. When I hit return, the paper moves with the typing part.

If it works on paper Then take a pice of 150 grit sandpaper and remove the glaze on the platen. After you will have to wipe the platen to get the black dust off.

Label stuck under typewriter platen/roller of Adler Royal

Roll a new piece of paper the best you can. Dribble a little paint thinner on the paper, letting it run down under the roller. The thinner will disolve the adhesive on the label. After a couple minutes, you should be able to roll out the paper and the laber with no problem.

Remove platen on Swintec 8011 typewriter

I can't remember which models have which features, but some Swintecs have pop out plantens, and some don't. If it is pop out, you will find a plastic V clip in the frame of the typewriter through which the platen shaft passes on both sides of the typewriter and platen. Pay close attention to which side the gear of the platen is situated before removing to make sure you put it back on the same side of the typewriter. Squeeze the V clips and pull the platen up and out. When re-installing, make sure the metal paper table is in correctly by aligning the fingers on each side into their mounting guides, or you will have paper jams, paper feed trouble, and other issues. You can clean the labels out with something that will not leave an oily residue on the paper table, paper feed rollers, or the platen. Re-install the platen by aligning the V clips to the frame on each side, and press them down until they snap into place.
