404 not found error when using a most of my search engines

do the latest updates for windows and try again and if this does not reslove the error try contacting the webmaster of that page

Error 404 is for when the web page you are requesting is not found, this means that your connection to the site etc is fine but the certain page you are requesting if not available.

You will be fine to ignore this error and continuing to use the internet by entering a website or search term into the bar at the top of Safari, as shown in the image below.


The error may be coming up as you have set your default page to a page that is no longer available, this can be changed by clicking on "Safari" in the top left of the screen then clicking on "Preferences..."

A new window will appear.

Enter the site you want to be the homepage when you open Safari in the location that says Homepage. You can enter what is shown or a page or search engine like "http://www.google.com".

Resolution
1) Retry the web page by clicking the refresh/reload button or trying the URL from the address bar again. The 404 Not Found error has been known to appear on occasion even if there is no real issue so a simple refresh will often load the page you were looking for.

2) Check for errors in the URL. Often times the 404 Not Found error appears because the URL was typed wrong or the link that was clicked on points to the wrong URL.

Error 404 means:
1. You had a valid link.
2. You reached the server.
3. The server is unable to find the page you are looking for.

So you really need to check the link. It may be old, expired or relocated.

On site like you tube, google etc. you may want to default to the main page and try searching for some relevant terms to get the resource.

I suspect a problem with your search engine or web browser. A code 404 means that the webpage you want is not on the server anymore. Obviously this is not the case as it works with other systems you say. Make sure the wording in your search engine's 'address bar' (not the place you type into) is exactly the same as in the browser that does work. Even 1 digit or letter off will cause this. Also, make sure 'http://' is in front of aol.com. Good luck!
