Check the fuel lines going to the carb. from the fuel tank for leaks and replace if they are bad.

lines ok seems like tank may be leaking

  • Allen Bennett Sep 16, 2011

try taking the carb. apart and clean the screen and needle valve and idle and air mix screws in it, if dirt is in the needle valve , it may cause fuel to leak on to the tank from the air filter side of the carb. making it look like the tank is leaking. Blow the carb. out with an air compressor to clean.

How to stop the bar chain oil leak

There should be an adjusting screw around the bar somewhere. Turn it anti clockwise until it stops and then just crack it one turn. If it still leaks too much then turn it down slightly.also try and store the saw on its side to stop the oil just coming out.

I have a chain saw homelite and the bar leaks oil in my case what do i do

Drain oil back out of tank B 4 you put away , its also a very good idea if you drain and purge gas tank as well , as either of these fluids left in saw will cause u problems if you leave in inside for long periods(< week) when you restart saw

My stihl ms390 chainsaw leaks bar oil, so i put a threaded plug in the hole, and when i get the plug far enough in, it impedes the oil flow to the bar.

Take the bar off and clean all the pieces and parts where the bar mates to the motor. Make sure the hole on the side of the bar, where the oil gets onto the chain drivers, is not plugged. Make sure there are no burrs, on the edge of the bar from chain wear, which will push the bar away from the chainsaw body leaving a gap for oil to leak. If your bar is worn, most bars can be flipped over and used either way. If it is made to be used in on either side it will have a hole for the oil to get into the bar on both sides. Alternating or flipping the bar will make it last a lot longer.
Something else to check is if your saw has a breather hole and if that is what is leaking or it is plugged and is not allowing the tank to breath. Not all saws have this feature.
When you store your saw it is best not to store it on its side with the bar hanging down as these position will cause more oil to leak.
Even if you have a perfect fit/seal, between saw and bar, oil will still leak if it is stored in a place with temperature fluctuations. This happens from the oil expands, when it warms up, creating pressure in the tank causing oil to leak out. I always put a piece of cloth on top of a plastic base to prevent seepage onto any surface. I run chainsaws professionally for over 35 years and they all will leak when stored in place with temperature changes. Some are worst than others. Hope this helped.

Saw dies when giving it gas

It dies because it's flooding as you increase the amount of flow, a small carb adjustment is needed. As far as the leaking bar oil, if the saw has a pump replace the gaskets between the motor and the bar and reduce the amount that the saw puts out when running. Let me know if that cures the problem.

Chain oil keeps leaking out..how can I stop it ???

First, make sure you're using bar & chain oil, it's very thick and won't leak out like motor oils will. When you're done using the saw, store it with the blade side of the saw up. Not always convienent, but the oil will run away from the blade oil channels and not leak out.
