You can try this. Open the cover (Unplug the monitor and leave at least for 30 minutes before doing this). See whether dust is there. If there is dust, get a 1" paint brush and gently remove the dust with the brush. Always sweep the dust away from the unit. If black dust is present around certain cables and around the flyback transformer (that black box covered with aluminium plates), use a soft cloth to wipe them (do not wet the cloth).
*Make sure you dont turn those rings on the back of the tube while wiping the the dust.
After cleaning the dust, replace the cover, connect it to the PC and check. You will have a brighter picture!
Hi, Download Belarc Adviser, install it and run the program. This will tell you lots of things about your computer, Under "Display" it will tell you what kind of graphics card you are using. It will probably be ATI or nVIDIA. Download and install the latest driver for your card. Be careful that you install the correct one. For example, if it says nVidia, go here for the latest driver.
After you have installed the latest driver for your graphics card, you can change the display settings to work in 1024*768. You do this by right-clicking on the desktop and clicking Properties. You will find the settings there.
most monitors get darker with age -- for a while you can counter this
by turning up the Brightness and Contrast controls, but this only gives
you a little extra time (and probably speeds up the decay process
anyway).

Is there anything going on in Control Panel, Power Settings? Such as an auto off? Sometimes getting the monitor to come back on after it goes to "sleep" can be tricky. Usually a keyboard stroke works better than mouse movement. It almost sounds like a hardware problem and I would contact the manufacturer and see if it's still under warranty. I'm assuming the PC it is connected to isn't going off?
Have you checked your display adapter settings? Check the display settings in control panel. Make sure you are viewing the screen at a decent resolution. 800/600 or larger.
Let me know what happens.
Good Luck,
Tim
