The VAC switch is probably no more good on my minimax pool heater. I have a new one but can't find where it is located. Any suggestions?

The air switch is located inside the front heater cabinet on the right hand side. You must remove both sheet metal boxes on the right to access this part. Just follow the rubber tube into the lower metal box.

NOTE: on these units, its much more common to see the rubber tubing fail. Not the actual air switch. To check the tubing, remove from the air switch, then remove the upper right panel to access the fan area. Follow the tubing into the fan casing and and remove. Check to make sure rubber is not brittle, crackes, or broken. Replace if necessary.

Do you have 24V at the brown wire of the gas valve? If you do then it is probably a bad gas valve.
If you don't have 24V on the brown wire it is probably the ignitor.

I have a PacFab MiniMax 100 pool heater. The pilot remains on... but the burner will not ignite unless I hit/jar the heater. Any suggestions on what may need replacement or repair?

First thing to check is the flow switch. You can bypass it temporarily, and see if it lights. DO NOT OPERATE IT WITHOUTH FLOW SWITCH. If it isn't the flow switch, then it could be the thermostat or a bad connection on this low voltage millivolt circuit.

The pilot light on my pentair minimax ch 250m will light, but when i switch button from pilot to on the flame goes out on the pool heater.

More than likley this is a bad thermocouple and will need a new pilot assembly. But it can also be a short in the safty circut, rat chewed wires or a bad gas valve. It may be best to get a repairman involved. Or you can just drop each switch out of line and jump past them to check. But part changeing can get pricy. Good luck.

Should the pentair minimax pool heater be wired to line or load?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Line side for a couple of reasons: First, there are more safety switches than just the pressure switch to ensure the unit shuts off prior to damaging itself. Second, and probably more importantly, removing power from the unit each time the time clock turns it off will keep erasing the temperature settings you enter. After a while that gets old for most people. Coincidentally, when pressure switched fail, they fail as open making the heater inoperable. While they could conceivably short closed and cause the situation you fear, I have never seen that in 20 years of servicing heaters.

New ignitor..still won't light

Clean out the pilot assemby or replace it. It is probably blocked by rust and/or spiders and is not letting enough gas (if any) through.

Minimax pool heater cuts out at 91 degrees when remotely set for

Turn the temp set knobs on the front of the heater all the way up do both pool & spa temp.
If that doesn't help flip the selector switch on the front of the heater the pool temp. This switch doesn't control what heats up Pool or spa it just selects the heater on and which thermistat to use
