sounds like bad capacitors on the power board. Very common problem. I would look at the caps if any appear even slightly rounded on top they are bad. They should be perfectly flat on top any puffing up means replace that cap.
You can buy a universal remote at the dollar store for cheap and then look up the model of the TV on Google and get the remote programming code for the TV and then read the instructions on how to program the specific remote that came in the remote packaging. -OR- If you are looking for the OEM remote, I would check Ebay if I were you, they always seem to have tons of remotes and other random components you cant find anywhere else

Is it not just a case of connecting a scart lead to the TV scart on the DVD, then into the Full Scart socket on the TV or have you done that and are having probs with it?
