Kill switch should have a wire connected to the tab on the spark coil under fan cover. The switch is a means of shorting kill wire to ground. On some generators, there will be another method of shutting down the engine. Usually on/off switch will be more visable on the control panel. Most likely the switch on fan cover was not connected to prevent confusion.

Need a replacement on-off switch for a DeVilbiss GB5000-2 generator

My switch broke as well. Instead of trying to find one, I removed it, and mounted a heavy duty toggle switch on the front of the shroud, just below the original location. Connect the original wire to one side of the switch, and a wire connected to a good ground to the other side. Btw, the off position on the toggle switch is run, and the on is now off. This repair has served me for years.

No spark 10 hp briggs+straton model 19E412-010701, ON/Off Switch broke replaced that, but get no spark

Remove the kill wire from the the back of the ignition module and test to see if you then have spark. If you have spark you would have a bad ground but if you still do not have spark then you may have a bad ignition module.
