I just replaced my turn signal switch in my 82 not 84 rampage. it works fine but when I replace the steering wheel, the horn honks and won't stop.when I look at the switch, I don't know how it could possibly work. There is a copper ring behind the steering wheel that rides against a copper pin that goes to the horn. The ring is in contact with the steering wheel and goes to ground and causes the horn to honk. I think the ring should not be grounded that world allow the horn to work properly. I must be missing something. I neet a diagram. Bob

I don't have a diagram, but if I understand what you're saying, there is a copper ring at the top of the steering column, visible before you install the steering wheel. The copper pin is connected to the horn button. The intent being that when you press the horn button, it completes the ground from the steering wheel through the horn button, through the pin, to the copper ring.
If this is correct, there should be no contact between the steering wheel and the copper ring other than the pin. Check to see if there may have been a spacer (washer, etc) below the steering wheel on the steering shaft that holds it just far enough away from the copper ring so that only the copper pin makes contact.

check all the wiring in the stearing wheel. Cover should screw off from the back side. Make sure the horn is hooked up. Should be in the front bumper. If it still dont work then buy a new one. Should run about fiftenn bucks.

SOURCE: 1992 Dodge Ram 50: Horn honks all by itself.

Check the horn actuating contact at the centre of the steering wheel. It may be damaged or mis-aligned.
Also check the carbon contact that runs on the slip ring under the steering wheel (associated with steering wheel horn actuate switch) It may be damaged or mis-aligned.

If none of the above are faulty, you should look for a possible intermittent short to ground on the horn actuation control wiring.

You can remove the horn relay and use a Ohm meter and check the resistance between the horn relay connector terminal No. 86 (Black Wire) and ground. If the ohms are less then 5 ohms replace the horn relay. There are a lot more tests but as Polarcycle states you can do what he suggested other then I believe you have two horns in this vehicle.

the little contact could have bent and is sitting on the ring, you may have to bend it so it only makes contact when you push on the horn pad. things should fit easily if the force it things can get bent out of their original shape and cause issues.
