It may be. I have replaced the lamp in my sony 3 times. Look for dlp lamps online and enter in your tv model. There are instructions online on how to change it yourself. They also show you in your manual. The power light should blink red indicating bulb failure. Read your manual. Hope that helps
I went throught the same ordeal... When your picture goes out usually the light will flash red. The number of flashes usually will diagnose what is wrong. Mine was flashing 5 times. I would lose picture and sound for a bit and then it would repeat. I first took out the lamp and vacuumed it out. If the screen gets clogged it will overheat. This fixed it for about a month. Then same deal. I went and bought the repair manual off ebay and everything pointed to the lamp. when I checked the service menu, mine had about 8,000 hours on it. Manual says good for about 9,000 hours. I bought a replacemant bulb online and paid about 159, which included overnight delivery. I did this back in November. The problem has not returned. The only other source of the problem located in the manual was to replace a part about 269 dollars to 300 dollars.
Your lamp has most likely blown out. that is what happened to mine and once I replaced the bulb it worked just fine. this is one of the cheaper stores to find a replacement bulb, www.bluestar-online.com
