I have the F4283 and the scan button has never worked (I'm on my second). I put the paper in the scanner than start the scan via the solution centre on the pc.
You just need to re-install the cartridge as if it was a new one. The printer should treat it as if it was a new cartiridge and reset ink levels in the system.
