Toshiba 51hc85 will not show picture red power light flashes where is reset button and or fuses What else could it be

This set does not have a reset button. The flashing light means shutdown and the most common cause is a short in the Convergence circuit.

Way to prove or disprove this is someone has to get at and unsolder both chips used--usually two stk-392-110 or similar--18 pins each.

If set comes on then one chip is bad but both must be replaced.

There are resistors around the chips that fail and that triggers the shutdown. Also most of these have pico fuses that are not glass and are tied to different areas of the set--one of them goes and shutdown is the result--they are green or orange and look like a resistor but have the amperage marked on the board next to them---two of them protect the convergence circuit and are usually 3 to 5 amp---can be tested with set unpowered just like any fuse--no reading across and bad.

set may have as many as 7 of these all in or near the power supply.

Replaced Convergence chips, same problem

This set has pico fuses on convergence board and also on G power board, there should be 2 5 amp pico fuses on power board.

If convergence is bad exactly as before double check the power board fuses and check to see if voltage (it is marked!) is there with power board disconnected from chassis..

Will bad convergance ic's keep my Mitsubishi

If one of the two stk-392-570 chips has shorted it will blow a pico fuse on middle board and set will not come on.

Plug set in, turn on, when green power light goes out on the front of the set press and hold both the menu and input (device) buttons for at least five seconds and release both.

Power light will blink a two digit error code: if 2,2 it is a blown pico fuse and the chips also must be replaced. I have start to finish step by step instructions that are available if the customer selects me to answer in the new Marketplace here on Fixya.

see attached photo of chip and also part of middle board with the green pico fuses.

How do i test fuses on a circuit board?

F9A04 and F9A05 are the two picos to test. They are both 5amp pico fuses they will appear lime green and look like resistors without color bands. They are located on the same board as the convergence Ics. Just test them for continuity with a ohms meter.

43FDX15B No picture, Power light stays on

Just a thought, but check all of the pico fuses for a blown fuse. The pico fuses look like a small yellow resistor. Some Hitachi's are famous for having a blown hi-volt ceramic capacitor and a blown pico fuse.
I think the red led on is a short protect indicator, but I could be mistaken.

Color alginment is off

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1 - Failure in the convergence circuits. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen may also look red, orange, dull, etc.

Hitachi 50ux58b

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address.
Here are the symptoms...

Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.
Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.

Hope this helps,
