External antenna will not work with KA500, don't even get static in any freq.

is this the kato voyager emergency radio? I'll assume it is. New or used? If new, return it. First, verify it works. Are you in an area where you can receive radio signals? Do this without any external add on antennas, just the original one. Go one? Now you can test the external antenna. I suspect your external antenna is shorted out. I see it more often than not. Redo any antenna connector you put on, be especially careful to keep ANY braid wires from the center. Even 1 will short it out. Test again. Works, you are done, Not? likely a bad radio or a bad antenna. Try another antenna if you tested the radio.

Is it possible to put a longer antenna on

yes, but no. The radio is designed for low power and a short antenna to limit range. This was to reduce interference with Licensed FCC radios. Since I will provide a few ideas, these are to experiment with radio waves, NEVER to break the law. So.....ideas to increase antenna: most simple, tape coax to the antenna lead. It will pick up a small amount of the radiated signal and sent it to the longer antenna. Strip the rubber and even the mesh, the center copper sends the signal. Best if under 10 feet. Other than this, you either cut open the rubber antenna or best of all, open the radio and soldier to the antenna connection on the main board. Remember: low power radios cannot send a signal far. Use good quality coax, RG58, never cable TV coax. Short length has a better opportunity of working. 30' you will lost all the signal in the coax. Other ideas? Yep, lots. email us. :)

What is wrong with a satellite reciever when all I am getting is aquiring signal displayed

This indicates that the antenna is not gathering enough of the signal to be played. This can be caused by an obstruction between the antenna and the satellite in the sky ie: tall buildings, heavy tree cover, covered garage, etc. It can also indicate a problem with the antenna itself, the cable between the antenna and the radio, the connector on the end of the cable or in the radio or, a problem with the antenna circuit inside the radio.

Since there's little you can do about the last item in the list, check the other parts of the antenna for damage. A pinched or crushed cable will short out the antenna signal - and the voltage sent to it by the radio. If allowed to persist for very long, damage to the radio could result. Look for breaks in the outer jacket of the cable - water entering the cable will cause corrosion and will degrade the signal, too. If you find a problem with any part of the antenna system, about the only thing you can do is replace the antenna completely. You can get a replacement online for as little as $9 and change.

Before installing, try connecting the antenna to the radio with the antenna exposed to ta clear view of the sky in a location that you were able to receive a signal before. If it works, you're done. If it doesn't - the problem is internal to the radio and will need to be repaired - or replaced.

I hope this was helpful - if it was - please rate it "4 thumbs up" Thanks!

Yes its antenna problem?maybe your house too closed signal your antenna is getting hard to find signal for your TV.

You must use a Outdoor Antenna to widen your signal range.

And also i suggest that you move you antenna outside your house or at your roof to be able to enhance the signal for your TV.

Hope my solution will help.

FM output

I had the same problem. Only thing that I came up with that was consistant is plugging it into the aux jack on my radio so you don't have to depend on FM frequency. But, my unit crapped out this week and I hope it is under warranty.
