There are two variants of the T5048
One uses DDR PC3200 ram
the other uses DDR2 PC5300
Should be able to look at the old ram and it should say on it what it is.
If it doesn't, take out the new, put in the old ram and go here

Run the "Scan My Computer"
Some computers will have a setting in BIOS to disable on board video although eMachine are very low end and probably don't offer that.
Shouldn't need to just install your video card and plug your monitor into it. It should work just fine without disabling on board.

Install the Installation CD for the graphics card, F-I-R-S-T. It has the Drivers on it. Then power unplugged to computer, observe Anti-Static precautions, physically install the graphics card. When a new device is installed Windows automatically goes to find a compatible driver. If THE driver/s are not found, Windows will match up one of it's generic drivers. This won't do. When the drivers are installed, and the graphics card is installed, BIOS will recognize the graphics card, and set the parameters in BIOS accordingly. (Don't forget to hook the monitor up to the graphics card, and NOT the I/O area on the back of the computer. {Motherboard)
