Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72 Digital Camera
Hi My dsc-p72 displays a black lcd screen with blue streaks in it while trying to take a picture or mpeg. All other times the screen seems to show normally (setup Etc) when i take a picure it is just a black square with the blue streaks in it. It started this one day ofter taking a picture of a sunset. I changed batteries got it to work for 2 pictures then the black screens back again. any help?
All this reliance on cleaning batteries is going too far. OK they get dirty and cause problems but after seeing so many problems blamed on batteries it's starting to sound like snake medicine. Have a read of this Billmik It has recently come to our attention that a limited number of Sony products that incorporate an image sensor device, or CCD, manufactured from October 2002 through March 2004 may exhibit the following condition: When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image. We have determined that this condition only occurs to a limited number of units, but may be accelerated if the units are exposed to high temperature and humidity environment. In our efforts to ensure customer satisfaction, Sony will offer free out of warranty repair to the owners of applicable products exhibiting the above-mentioned condition. Go to the Sony home page and see if your camera is affected and even if it isn't send them an email. I've sent two cameras off with this very problem and both (Konica and Fuji) have repaired them well out of warranty. At the moment I have a fuji Finepix going to their service center which has the symptoms but it isn't on their list. I was assured that if it was the CCD at fault it would be replaced for free even though the camera is 3 years old. GOOD NEWS Your camera is on the list. Get it packed up and send it off to Sony. Just make sure your hqave the warranty card or proof of purchase and it has no dents in it from being dropped. By the way, you even get warranty on the repair. BMW

Hi billmik, Try cleaning the contacts on the battery door, carefully. This usually fixes the problem. If it does not, take the camera to a camera shop for a cleaning. This will solve the problem, and is much cheaper than buying a new camera. Let me know how it works for you. Best regards, nightdiver
