Sony ar320E Vaio Laptop - Started getting very thin vertical lines of different colors starting 6 motns ago. Started with a few, then had dozens. Now I have a large vertical black area, with some colored vertical lines, in the same area. Does this sound like motherboard/video chip problem, or a dying LCD? Thank You.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the LCD screen will need to be replaced on the laptop, but if both show the same symptom it is the Video Graphics Card normally built into the motherboard.
I did!, go to hp drivers and look for zv6000t all the drivers working for the vaio, only you have to install manually and look for each file and install for sure work...
hi there.
try going into the bios and check if the lines are still there,
If the lines are visible while in the bios it means that the LCD is the point of failure however if it's not then go to safe mode with networking so you can still connect to the internet and then download the latest driver for your video card from sony or the video card manufacturer.
Hope this helps!
For a factory reset there are two installation options: C:\ drive recovery System recovery
System
recovery will rebuild the partition. C drive recovery will simply re
install the C drive on the active partition. When you do full system
recovery we create a hidden partition that is read only. this gives you
the F10 boot-able recovery partition tools.hit f-10 on boot up
If this is still under warranty, then send it back for repair. If you have connected it to 2 PCs with the same results, then the problem is internal to the monitor.
base on our experience.... you are looking at a possible screen problem. Is it serious? yes as the screen replacement costs almost half of the total cost of the laptop.
but no harm trying this
1. remove the screws from the LCD bezel, remove the screen 2. detach the cable and reinsert them all both the inverter and the flex cable.
inverter is the circuit usually located at the bottom of the screen and the flex cable is the ribbon that runs from the laptop to the back of the lcd.
