LCD not working

Hi I have a Konica Minolta Dimage Z1. The problem is that the LCD display is broken. I have not dropped the camera or anything like that. It just stopped working whilst I was taking pics. Pics are taken via the view finder only and all operations on the camera will only work through the viewfinder. This is the 2nd time I am having this problem. The first time it got fixed, the camera was under guarantee and it had to be replaced. The gaurantee is now expired and I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Konica Minolta no longer exist as such. Sony have taken them over and any repair, service work now goes through them. They agreed to take on warranty work as well. On the rear of the camera is a small push switch which will disable the LCD to conserve power. Are you sure you haven't switched the LCD off and forgotten about it? I think it can also be disabled in the setup too so check that. If you can find someone to open the rear of the camera up get them to check the flat ribbon cable (sometimes two) running to the LCD assembly. Sometimes they come lose from their sockets. You will also find two ordinary wires running to the LCD, these are the power lines for the tube which lights up the LCD. They both run to a common plug so check it's not fallen out of the socket. BMW At worst it could be a bad LCD and the best thing for that would be to keep an eye on Ebay for a damaged Z1 which has a good LCD and do a transplant.

I'm not sure what the Konica minolta policy is on this, but the right thing to do is to take responsibility when you get the same problem as one that had you replace or fix the product while under warranty. Offcourse it won't help you if that was already more than a year ago. I wish you luck, and next time don't buy konica minolta if you think they put out poor quality. besides, I heard they're coming out of the digicam business(which might not help you get service), but maybe I'm confusing with another brand.

Broken camera

This camera came out in 2003 and retailed for $400. It's only a 3.2MP camera with a 1.5 inch lcd screen...not much by today's standards but was quite a camera in its day. I'm guessing by your list of problems that it would be quite expensive to fix if you could even find someone to fix it. I would seriously consider putting the money toward a new camera.

Dimage x50 konica minolta digital camera

Hi,
If the LCD was physically cracked or broken, then yes you should be able to swap it for an undamaged one.

The cheapest option for you is to advertise or look on Ebay for an identical model - also with faults, but with an undamaged display. (maybe dropped - sold as not working)

See HERE - this is just like yours - but also has the cracked LCD. You need to search for one with a good display.

Take this "donor" apart first to see how it's assembled, then just swap the parts.

This method of repair is common for consumer electronics.

Thanks for using Fixya!. If this has provided a solution, plrease rate as such. Thanks.

Is my camera broken?

it is a 3.3 megapix camera and was expensive for its day so I would contact the repair department at Minolta but dont tell them it was dropped as they wont touch if you do and they may have a flat rate for the repair . I just bought a fuji 5.6 megapix for 200 bucks. Good Luck
