Cannot power down with button or remote

TV turns on with power button and remote. However, there is not image, no menu capability and cannot power off with button or remote.

  • Anonymous Dec 27, 2008

My tv will only power up with the on-set button, will not power up with the remote, nor will it shut off with either control. The LED is blue, not green, and I get a black screen, with no option for on-screen programming.

LC-37SH12U picture is upside down

Its somewhat common for this to happen and generally its an easy fix but since your set doesn't have the flip picture option your going to need to get into the service mode to fix this...below are the steps on how to get into the service menu on a Sharp TV...once your in there you need to look for either mirror image or H invert, and change that setting from on to off or off to on depending on what setting you have.

* While the LCD is on, unplug the power cable.
* Then while pressing the {INPUT} & {VOL -} buttons on the remote, plug the power cable back into the outlet.
* When it powers up you will see a little "k" appear in brackets.
* Then on the TV, press and hold {VOL -} & {CH -} down and release.
* The Service Menu will be displayed.
* Use {CH+} {CH -} buttons to navigate
* Use {VOL+} {VOL -} buttons to adjust the value.
* Turn the set off to exit the Service Menu.

Can't get it to auto tune

Hello

To set the TV to autotune do the following.

1 Press "Power Button" to turn on the TV. The Initial Setup screen appears

2 Press CH UP button on the remote control or on the TV front panel to start Auto Program, or press CH DOWN button to Exit.

When you start autoprogramme, wait until it is finished; otherwise it will skip over channels that are available. If it happens so, perform autoprogram again by turning on the power button.

The initial set up screen appears each time you turn on TV until you perform auto program.

To perform Auto Program again

1 Press "Menu" button.
2 Press"=>"to highlight Channel Menu.
3 Press "Down arrow button" to highlight Cable. Press "+" button to select.

4 Press "Up Arrow button" or 'Down arrow button"to highlight On or Off according to how you connected your TV. Press "+" to select.
5 Press "Down arrow button" to highlight Auto Program. Press [+] to search for channels
6 After Auto Program finishes press "Menu button" to exit.

To reset the TV to factory settings

1 Turn the TV on.
2 Hold down [Reset key] on the remote control.

3 Press and release the POWER button on the TV front panel. The TV will turn itself off,
then back on.
4 Release [Reset] key.
Ok.

Power light blinks 13 times

need replaced A-BOARD
Manufacturer Panasonic Part Number TNPH0716ABS Description A- BOARD

After the installation of a new A board, unit has the characters "CHK" on screen. The usual reset procedures of [VOL -] and [MENU] or [OK] or [SLEEP] will not get rid of "CHK".

1. Enter the service mode by holding down the [VOL -] button on the TV (main unit) and simultaneously pressing the [INFO] button on the remote control three times.
2. Press the number [2] key on the remote to highlight [SRV-TOOL].
3. Press the [OK] button on the remote control to select [SRV-TOOL].
4. Use the [DOWN ARROW] on the remote control to scroll down to [PCTC].
5. Use the [RIGHT ARROW] button on the remote to open the box to the right, then press and hold down the [MUTE] button on remote to display Time/Count.
6. Press and hold the [RETURN] button on the remote control until the TV turns off.
7. Immediately press and hold down the [VOL -] button on the TV (main unit) and the [MENU] button on the remote. The TV should come up in the Self Check mode.

Red Hue

Go into the service menu and turn down the red push and red cut a few notches. Write down every value in the service menu and be careful to make sure you don't change anything else. Also, turn down the brightness a couple of clicks and the red glow will be gone.

Or, try this - Press Mute on the remote control twice, press Mute a third time and keep holding at the same time, press the Menu button on the TV front panel. If you do it correctly, you will see a small S on the screen. Congrats, you are in service mode. Press Menu on the remote to get to the adjustable settings. Be careful not to change anything without writting the original value down first. Also be careful of hitting other buttons on the remote. To reduce red push, Use the channel up down button until it says RCUT. Adjust the value using the volume button on the remote. I recommend setting RCUT to 80H, which is the preset value according to the service manual. To exit Service Mode, simply power off the TV. Good luck.

The sharper image jumbo touch panel remote control, can program every appliance (tv, dvd, etc.) except my directv hd receiver. no codes listed in booklet for the hd receiver, tried the codes for regular...

The instructions that came with my remote were COMPLETELY incorrect. I made note in pen in my jumbo remote manual. After hours of searching the web and piecing together various blogs, I wrote these easy-to-use instructions:
  1. Place the jumbo remote and your old remote on a flat surface, head to head, with a 1" to 2" space in between (the remotes should be aiming at eachother).
  2. Press and HOLD the device button on the jumbo remote (eg. TV) until the jumbo remote's small indicator light turns solid red.
  3. Press the LEARN button once on the jumbo remote. The light will blink rapidly.
  4. On the jumbo remote, press the button that you want to perform the learned action (eg. If you want the jumbo remote to turn your TV on and off, press the POWER button on the jumbo remote).
  5. Press the same button on your old remote (eg. POWER button on my old tv remote control). When the jumbo remote's light changes from rapid flashing to slower flashing, press ENTER on the jumbo remote.
  6. You're done! Try the jumbo remote out (eg. Aim the jumbo remote at your TV, press the jumbo remote's TV button, then press the jumbo remote's POWER button). Your television should turn on or off with your jumbo remote.
You can program any jumbo remote button this way (eg. MENU, EXIT, MUTE). Just make sure you press the same button on each remote in steps 4 and 5 (eg. MENU on jumbo remote, MENU or LIST on old remote).

Lcd screen does not stay on.

Not really a solution, but a workaround. You can enter public mode menu and disable power off by power button. Hold the remote in one hand (you'll need it later), and with the other hand maintain "volume " and "input" buttons on the TV, and press the power button. Maintain the power button depressed otherwise the TV will power off. You can release the other buttons. The TV should display a "Public mode" dialog box where you can input a 3-digit password. Enter "027" with the remote. The TV should display the public mode menu. It is operated with the cursor arrows of the remote. Highlight the "power on fixed" item. Change it to "fixed". Then highlight "execute" and press OK on the remote. You should now be able to release the power button without turning off the TV.
In Sharp's own words :
In "Fixed" setting, the power-off by the power key of the unit is invalidated and the image is kept being received. The power can be turned off by stopping the power supply from AC.
Note that you won't be able to turn the TV off with the remote either.
Also, if you wish to enter public mode menu again, you will have to disconnect and reconnect the power cord on the back of the TV while maintaining "volume " and "input" buttons depressed, because the power button is no longer operating.

Turning off PIP without remote

To turn off the "stuck" pip on a Panasonic tv without a remote:
1) Turn off the tv.
2) Then hold down the "Action" button on the front of the tv and press the power button.
2-b) Continue to hold down the Action until the tv powers all the way up, and the reset menu comes up - be patient.
Expected Reslut: Self check menu should appear.
Expected Reslut: The pesky pip screen will be gone!
If the self check menu does not appear, you did not hold the Action button long enough.
Simply begin from step one.
