I have a Sony HCD-C450 5 disc DVD player. Recently it has stopped reading the DVDs. Sometimes it still plays normally but other times it sends a message telling me to insert a dvd when there is already one in the machine. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? It happens with all DVDs not just some. I've tried turning it off and turning it back on, and opening and reinserting the disc. Don't know what else to try.
Tried this and it didn't help because I couldn't get the DVD player to play the laser cleaner. Any other suggestions?Tried this and it didn't help because I couldn't get the DVD player to play the laser cleaner. Any other suggestions?

Re: DVDs won't play
Hi Pookie,
This is an easy fix. All you need to get is a CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner for about $5.00. You can get these at Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, or any similar place.
Use this, and let me know how it works for you.

You could take the player in for a laser pickup adjustment. It would be cheaper than buying a new one, and this is a great dvd player. Sorry my first fix did not work.

Unfortunately, you have a DVD player that is "Region Specific" and cannot be changed. Your system has a region code printed on the back of the unit and will only play DVDs that are labeled with identical region codes. DVDs labeled "ALL" will also play in this unit. If you try to play any other DVD, the message " Playing this disc is prohibited by area limits." will appear on the TV screen. Depending on the DVD, no region code indication may be labeled even though playing is prohibited by area limits.
probebly a bad laser. sometimes they will play music but not dvds or even the other way around. from what iv read this is happening to people in just a few weeks.
It could be down to the Region of the Player or the Laser is Failing. As it doesn't play CDs then I suspect the the Laser is Failing (almost failed if it plays a cleaner but not CDs).
The dvds discs u bought from the UK is play on only the DVD player that play PAL signal format. Where u live Canada,US or Mexico?DVD players in these countries. It play only NTSC signal format.U can't change DVD players regions format, only can a DVD players that have regions free to play all DVDs discs of the world.
Please clean laser lens with good quality cotton bud gently and check dvd disc playback, if still does not play, replace optical lens block. Let me know model number of your Sony DVD-VCR combo to provide you optical laser block part number info. Thanks.
Reset you player by doing the following:
With the player on, hooked properly to your television, and on the correct station:
Open the tray
Close the tray (with no DVD inserted)
Hold the stop button down for a full 5 seconds
The CyberHome screen should appear. You should be able to play your dvd's now.
In response to your jvc-a75r DVD player, sometimes the solution might be less complex than it may appear. Had the same problem with my Samsung s321,the machine refused to read DVD's but would play CD's no problem. Simply opened up the cover(usually)4-6 small screws, and found my dog's hair inside of the player covering the laser eye.Electrostatic ionization
attracts dust, etc. into the player remarkably well sometimes. Carefully used a cotton swap to remove debri. PLayerworked fine afterwards
...Good luck!
Tried this and it didn't help because I couldn't get the DVD player to play the laser cleaner. Any other suggestions?
