I replaced the 392-110's on my Pioneer with a pair a friend gave me. For about a day convergence was fine and now the red is back to flipping out. (Get's so bad it blows the fuse)
I was thinking I'd invest in a couple of STK392-180's (Pioneer's suggested replacement).
On the Pioneer site they are 40 bucks an IC.
I've seen sites claiming to have Sanyo brand for $15bucks.
Is this trustworthy or do I have to bite the bullet and more than double my cost?

The convergence of your tv is defective try to replace it. You will find the convergence chip inside your tv, try to open the back cover of your tv but be sure to unplug the tv first. Try to look the large aluminum plate it is the heat sink, your convergence chip is attached to that heat sink it has a marking of stk-*** followed by a number you should remove it from the pcb using a soldering iron, and soldering pump but be very careful you might damage the pcb and may caused another fault to your unit. Or you can contact a service technician to save you from stress. Good day and best regards.
Does the kit have a pair of convergence ICs? That is what you will need to fix the convergence problem. The kit should also contain thermal grease(a white paste that should be applie to the ICs before you solder them) and resistors that may also need to be replaced. When a convergence IC blows its usually due to failed resistors.
The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignment, have colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures look alike. The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. These parts on the convergence board must be replaced to solved the tv convergence picture problems. The shop, will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
U have tools like a soldering iron, desoldering pump or desoldering braid and solders?U know how to do basic soldering? The tv convergence board require replacing 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors too,to solved this chirping sound problems.Tries websites like Tvrepairworld.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self. The shop, will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
The tv 100% have convergence problems,it dead. The tv convergence board, require changes 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors to solved the convergence problems. The shop, will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
U mean all ur colors picture lines on the tv are misaligns?Ur tv convergence are dead. This problems are the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. The convergence board the 2 STK Convergence ICS and those resistors must be change to solved the convergence problems. The shop will cost u $300-350 for the parts and labors.
Possible cause if generic chips were used. You can't use generic STK chips on this set they will blow, if not right away most likely within a month. I just did my friends set and spent 51.00 a piece for genuine Panasonic STK chips, didn't replace any other components and its fine. (I did have an unrelated issue with fluid but the set is fine now) I am not sure that is the problem your having but if you got cheap chips in the kit you bought, there is a chance they blew again. Also double check your solder connections make sure there isn't any bridging or cold solder joints. Did you use new heat sink grease (white paste)? Checking the voltage is good advice also. My advice is based on the assumption that you tried to fix the convergence through the convergence menu on the set and still couldn't get it. Let me know...
The converence IC's are the problem. Unfortunaely,
I do not a service manual for that unit. You will find the IC's mounted on a large heat sink. The nuers usually start with STK-xxxx. Find these IC's and copy the number off them. Usually the can be replaced by generics. You can order them directly
from Mat Electronics 1-800-628-1118. Be extremely careful when you desolder these ICS the foils are
easy to lift. Use desoldering braid(chemtronics)
10-25L. Also ask for BOB and tell him that Tom from TOM's Tv suggested him. This will insure you the lowest price. Also some times the current limiting resistors open up. Always replace both convergence ICS. In your case only one is bad. Replace both anyway. (they only cost about $12.00 @ Any further questions, contact me. These are great TV's and well worth repairing!!! Scrivitron
