Question about Troy Garden

1 Answer

I have a 2 cycle Troy-Bilt TB90BC line trimmer. Won't idle. I've had the carburetor dipped, installed a new carb kit, replace the gas lines, but will only run at full speeds. Dies out easily. I've tried starting the engine with the gas filter removed, with the air filter removed and even with the spark arrestor removed. Still won't idle?\r\n Ray

One of three things is occuring here. The IDLE SPEED SCREW (Phillips head) on the throttle plate is screwed in way too far. The L and H mixture screws are open way too much allowing the carb to use excessive fuel, even on startup. Those 2 screws may need adjusting. The metering lever in your carb is not adjusted flush with the carb body flange and is holding the gas needle open constantly. Check these things and post back.

I have a Troy-Bilt XP grass trimmer...only run on full choke, I replaced the fuel filter because there was plugged.Still no help. I ordered a new carb and replaced it and still had the same problem.

When you installed the new carb did you adjust it for your engine? Idle control, idle mixture, fast misture? Running only with choke indicates that engine is not getting enough gas routinely via the main jet.

Troy Bilt model TB90BC trimmer won't stay started

new formula gas is HORRIBLE for carbs on small engines, especially if they sit over a winter. the ethenol (actually White Lightning) is almost pure alcohol so it absorbs water before evaporating and leaving corrosion and water in carb. DO NOT use gas that has sat for any length of time. i never mix more than a gallon at a time. the openings in these small carbs are less than the diameter of a straight pin so just about anything will clog them up. NEVER run without an air filter and keep it clean. it is not difficult to install a new kit but just make sure you remember the sequence when you reassemble the carb. some kits have more parts than you need as they fit other models so match your old parts with the new ones b/4 reassembly. helps to be a watchmaker instead of a mechanic when you r and r a carb. most problems are old gas, varnish, stiff parts, clogged lines or openings, air cleaners, etc. hopes this helps.

TB90BC WON'T START

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vaccum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evoporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replaceing gaskets or fuel line if necessory.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where thay want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow untail machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding aginst engine to chech spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, ``

Sometimes, unfortunately, the chemicals and solvents used in a "dip" and/or cleaning solution are too harsh. They tend to "swell" the very sensitive check valves inside the carb. The idle fuel circuit has one, the high speed main nozzle has one, and there are one or two inside the primer pase assembly on top of the carb. You state that it won't idle, but does it run otherwise. If it does, some carb adjustments may be required on the L and H screws to get it to idle.

Gas line's mixed up on weed eater XT30D

Hi nrosevear..

Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.
The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.

Troy-Bilt weed eater, Model TB90BC, had rotten fuel lines and primer bulb, I replaced but may have hooked them up wrong. How do I hook them up?

Prime and watch the fuel move up to the carb. This is the fuel line and it should be long. Make sure it goes to the bottom of the fuel tank.

4 cycle engine wont stay running when pulling it has fresh gas

First, check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks.
If they are o.k., then you will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure the small screen in the carb. is free of debris. Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. Reassemble and start.

(NOTE: If the cleaning doesn't work, then buy a carb. kit abd replace all appropriate parts.)

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Sounds like you need to take the carb. apart and clean it. I like to use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning teeth), to clean the small ports in carb. they work great for this job. Make sure to either clean or replace the small screen in thcarb. as well.
