It's a major problem for all cameras which have lenses popping in and out. Quite often dust can be sucked in and jam the drive up. Sand from the beach is the worse problem. The most common fault is the camera has been dropped lens down from just about any height. If you're not handy it may be cheaper to sell it on Ebay as faulty and buy a new one. If you are handy or daring :-) you can often clear the problem by removing the lens assembly and using compressed air on it to blow any grit out of the way. To dismantle the actual assembly can be really asking for trouble as they can be mongrels to put back together. But if you're methodical and have a good memory you may be lucky. WARNING don't do what a neighbout did and squirt WD40 into the camera lens. In fact avoid any lubricants near cameras.

To my regret,it seems like a problem with the lens servo motor. The lens unit can become damaged if it's opened while it was in your pocket, or in its case. The power button gets pressed and the lens attempts to extend, the lens gets jammed and the servo motors is damaged. This problem should be repaired by a certified technician. Ask first for repair cost quotation. Good luck !

SOURCE: camera will not come on
When the charger blinks it indicates is either charging or trying to charge.
A solid red light indicates a bad battery.

I had my camera fixed. The problem was that the contact wasn't getting enough power from the battery causing it to turn on and off.
Thanks for the help.
