On laptops both the laptop LCD screen and the external video port can be toggled to show laptop LCD, external vodeo and bothe laptop LCD and external video.
You need to press and hold down the Fn key and one of the function keys that has the monitor symbol, repeated pressing this function key will toggle the video outputs.
I cannot advise you which function key works with your laptop as they vary between different laptop manufacturers.

My LG 55LE5400 TV will not show a picture. The screen is black. I was watching a movie and it just went off.

Hi,
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Can i connect my pc to mu tv as monitor?

Hi,
Yes you can, if your TV has the video connector for your computer. The difference is the pixel that would be lower than the comp. monitor.

Hope that helps!

I have used a LCD tv as my computer monitor and it took a little playing around to get mine to work. you can actually set it up as far as monitor 1 or 2 and have it so you see your computer screen and the tv screen. you can drag pages from your computer screen to the tv screen....kinda cool

Getting only vertical color bars

I had the same exact problem with my PC to TV only showing colored bars. I watched a lot of videos/read many forums to try to figure this out.

The solution was very simple.

I did two things wrong: 1) I was using a different VGA cable then the one that came with the unit. 2) My PC resolution was not set to 1024x768 so my tv couldnt read it.

MAKE SURE you use the VGA y-cable provided with the unit and MAKE SURE you plug the one labeled "PC" into your PC (as opposed to the other blue one labeled "monitor," which i dont use. it DOES make a difference)

Then i press fn+F7 (my particular hot key for external monitor display. every comp is different, so check yours online/in the manual) on my laptop. I had to enable the "XGA 1024x768" option under the "fn+F7 settings." (all i did was check off a box for this option and click OK. then i was able to use that option)

Once i did this, POOF!!!! Away went the annoying colored bars and up came my computer!! HOORAY!!!

So lets recap:
1) use the provided y-cable to connect PC to TVtoPC and plug them in according to its label.
2) make sure your hot key settings has the option for "Presentation on Projector and Notebok : XGA 1024x768" and enable it. (i assume xga=vga???)
3) once you click that resolution option, your picture should come up! (if not, then just reset the pc to tv and it should work!

I hope this helps you with your problem!!

PS: I read that the computer needs to have a screen refresh rate of 60 hz. This is accessable thru right click->preferences->display settings->advanced settings->monitor->refresh rate. I didnt need to mess with this cuz my PC already had that setting. the resolution was the actual problem.

PS #2: I saw many videos on youtube saying that you needed to switch to monitor 2 under the display settings. this is contrary to my setup. I am still using monitor 1. just with the 1024x768 res. instead of my normal 1400x1050 resolution.

Sorry if this is really wordy! Hope it helps you solve your problem and keep you from throwing your PC to TV out the window!!

Samsung hdtv to compaq pc

There should be a setting within the comp. Is it connected to the comp monitor and the tv? Perhaps from the comp to the tv with the monitor from the comp as well? Well if so, you may need a certain setting within the comp. Check under (on xp) display properties, and then under the settings tab. Please rate!

I am trying to connect my laptop to the Polaroid LCD TV, as i would like to use the TV monitor as a computer monitor (my laptop monitor is broken). So I connect the correct wire to correct places, however...

The simple patch that I found (same problem) was to start by using any old monitor that I could borrow to set up my Dell Laptop.
After getting the Laptop booted on a regular monitor I right clicked on the desktop and went to properties then to the settings tab.
Here I found the dual monitor settings (#2 will usually be dis-abled by default.)
Click on #2 monitor and set the resolution to the lowest number (800 x 600 works well)
Then I clicked on "make this monitor my primary monitor"
As soon as I clicked apply the PC Windows screen appeared on the Polaroid TV screen

Earlier I had set the secondary monitor as "extend this screen to this monitor"
This also worked but I had to "drag the current screen to the right all the way off the
"borrowed monitor" until it appeared on the TV screen. The mouse pointer will be there also.
At first it took a little getting used to but in a few minutes I was up and running.
Hope this helps your situation

Mymonitor is black and the on button from the monitor is green and is flashing

i havent seen this question asked, and believe me i have searched. i have compaq presario, windows xp media edition 2005, 64 amd processor, model # SR2017CL, with HP 1703 17" monitor. Prob-put computer in hibernate mode other evening, without turning it off. when i woke up, screen had diagonal lines going across it. i rebooted, well manually restarted, since comp would not respond.
Message comes up white with black writing, essentially, prob with active desktop, restore or turn off. i tried to turn off and screen went back to diag. lines. looks like the horizontal hold of a tv screen is asque. tried adjusting monitor to no avail.
tried a few more times, was fine for a few mins then went to same thing. now when i turn monitor on it blinks red, blue, and so on.
just whole screen that color. so i am at the point where i dont
know if its the comp or the monitor. (i am quite a newby)
ty for any help you can give
