The split run capacitor in the condensing unit is bad. It needs to be replaced. The reason the system is not cooling is because the compressor it not running. The capacitor is needed for the fan and the compressor to run properly. That is why you had to give the fan a kickstart with a stickstart.
Hope this helps.

HOW MUCH IS THE COST FOR A SPLIT RUN CAPACITOR IN THE CONDENSING UNIT? AND CAN I REPLACE IT MYSELF?

  • Horace Gardner Sep 08, 2011

Cheap and yes you can do it yourself. First you need to get the information off the existing run capacitor. There is a mfd (microfarad) rating on the capacitor. example 35/5 mfd. Then call heating and air supply stores to find one that will sell it to you. If and when you get the new capacitor then turn the power off to your unit. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Look at your new capacitor on the top and you will see a "c", a "fan" and a "herm". Now look at your old capacitor and you will see the same nomenclature on the top of it. Take note(write down) of the wire colors that go to each of these terminals. With the power still off, take the wire off the old capacitor and remove the capacitor. Install the new capacitor and connect the wires exactly as they came off the old one. Turn the power on and watch you unit run like a top.
    Good luck

Goodman AC unit

It doesn't look like the other 4 were used. Unless when it got "yanked" it also got cut. I am betting you don't need them though.

I have a Goodman a/c unit, comes on and runs but no colld air. fins spin and blower doesnt blow cold air. model # ckl 42 - 1.

The first thing I would do is a visual on the capacitor. This time of year with more use the capacitor will swell up and fail. themobilian_2410.jpgthemobilian_2411.jpg
If that is good I would see if the contactor was in tact
themobilian_2412.jpg
Sometimes the smaller wires get broken going outside to the contactor.

We had a power surge a few days and now my Goodman Heat Pump fan is running backwards, I hold my hand over it and the air is not blowing up and I am not getting heat or cold air when its on. A few times I...

Yes, it could be that or somehow the polarity got reversed. Thus, causing the fan to run backwards. Goodman makes a fine product, but if it were me, I'd get a qualified service technician out to check it out. Power surges can do a lot of damage.

What type of start capacitor do i need for a goodman ckl 30 1L

Air Conditioning Compressors are Permanent Split Capacitor motors that use a "Run" capacitor. You can purchase a "Kick-Start" which is a hard starting device.
