Here's the issue, when I place the S50 into the car dock (the only type of dock I have for it) it will power up to the Sirius logo screen and then stay at that screen. I cannot bring up the menu or playlist screens, nor does it send any audio feed out. I'm sure there's a fix.... I hope.
The number for Sirius is (800)869-5364. They are very helpful when I had the same locking up problem. They will walk you through the process to update the item. Worked 100%^!
Had absolutely nothing to do with the battery.
I had the same problem and tech support was able to get me up a working. It happened 3 times/ the 3rd time when I called tech support told me my radio was most likely dead for good. I can still play the songs saved on it bit no satellite. It died about 3 months after the warranty expired :( .. I called sirius and they sent me a free stratus( basic and cheap but free) and a hat. I noticed that they sell refurbished s50's on their website so I called to see if I could send mine in for repair and was told that they do not repair radios out of warrenty, so I am the proud owner of a $375 mp3 player that holds 100 or so songs... lucky me!!
It seems to be a problem with the battery. I had the same issue, removed the battery and plugged the player into my home dock and it worked again. I would guess that when I replace the battery it will function just as before.

I had the exact same problem happen to me yesterday with my S50. My guess is that the software got corrupted somehow. I fixed mine last night be reinstalling S50 software via USB cable to my PC. Note: You need My Sirius Studio application loaded on your PC. Be sure to press Exit button on My Sirius Software Ap after you reinstall S/W. Patiently wait for S50 to 100% complete before disconnecting. Then, manually turn on S50 (while holding in your hand); do NOT put in car/home dock yet. S50 will then update S/W. When this completes, now you can put in dock. I don't exactly recall, but I think the S50 indicated the dock was being updated, then it defaulted to channel 184 indicating to call Sirius to subscribe. Since I already have a subscription in place on my S50, I just pressed channel 2 (The Blend) from my remote, and then my S50 began updating all channels. Success! I'm so happy my S50 is now working again! Good luck to others experiencing same problem; hope this helps! I can only imagine the frustration trying to get help from Sirius folks for this type of problem...
I have the same problem.....as I also live in AZ...I even bought a new battery online but that did not work. The unit will not power up in the car dock or on my home dock...even with a new battery. Not sure what to do...I do not want to have to buy a whole new unit since I have all the docks for car and home...Help on this would be great!
When the S50 is place overnight in the Home Base Unit or connected to the AC Adapter it will not charge battery completely.
The I have purchased two new batteries and both have not been properly charge by the units mentioned.
The charge provided to the Battery is of short duration 10 or 15 minutes maximum.
I have telephoned Sirius Company and their response was that they don’t have repair service for this unit any longer.
