That "pop" was the flyback transfor, a resistor, or a capacitor bloweing up. if your not a technician this is considered a circuit repair and ther are no serviceable parts inside this set for you to replace without the proper tools , service manuals, and schematic diagram. Sorry man your gonna need a serfvice pro to help ya with this repair. Good Luck

U had this tv for 15 years but u watches or used the tv less than 8 hours everydays?Yes,than this tv set have alot of life left in it like another 5-7 years more.Yes,if the repair cost is around $500 or less.Because u will not get that kind of screen "61 size for $500 dollars.
More than likely you have a power board that is failing. Since the TV is so old I doubt it is under warranty still. I estimate it would cost you anywhere between $300-400 to repair that problem so it may be time to switch to a newer LCD TV.
#1 When I turn on the TV the power button comes on then blinks 6 times then goes off for a few seconds then repeats the cycle. I have sound over my surround system during this time but no picture.
#2 My sound would crackle and pop every once and a while until now it does nothing. I have to watch it with the surround sound on.
