Check the small lock switch on the adapter usually located on the edge of the adapter. check and see if in lock or open position. if its in lock position toggle the switch to open position and you should be able to read as well as write date to and fro from the sony memory stick pro duo adapter. good luck

SOURCE: Memory Stick Pro Duo 8GB on PsP

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.

The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.

Are you formatting it with your computer or PSP?

  1. Push the little HOME button on the bottom left of the face of the unit.
  2. Use the arrow keys to move to the SETTINGS area, then move the up and down keys until you get to System Settings.
  3. Once you are there, click on the "X" button and scroll up and down as needed to find Format Memory Stick. Click on "X" again to select that option.
  4. The Sony PSP will now confirm that you want to reformat the memory stick (which removes every file and game save thereon, of course): choose yes and it'll format in just a few seconds.
It that doesn't work - try formatting it with your computer.

    • 1 Visit the Sony Support site (see Resources) and download the Sony memory card software. You will need to specify your operating system. Save the file to your desktop.
    • 2 Double-click the downloaded file to launch the installer.
    • 3 Follow the onscreen instructions to install the Sony memory card software. Restart the computer after completion. Once the computer starts back up, it will recognize the Memory Stick Pro Duo when inserted into the computer's memory card reader. You can browse the files using Windows Explorer or the installed x-Pict Story software.

Memory stick may not work correctly

the memory stick has to be formatted with the device it is to go into or it may not recognize it
Format the stick with the camera. If this is a Web cam then format the disk in Windows with a SD memory card adapter. Can be found on Ebay for small price

Sony memory stick PRO duo 4gb card says memory full when empty

I would suggest formating the memory card through the options on your camera. If you reformat the memory card and you still get the same error then you have a bad card. Just like anything else the cards will break down internally over time.

I inserted a PRO Duo card in a PRO reader (no DUO) and now the camera won't recognize it

It's possible the memory card just needs to be formatted again. Formatting will clear off all data on the card however.

In order to format the card you will need the proper adapter to connect it to a pc. Once it is detected by the pc you can go to the drive in "My Computer" in XP (or "Computer" in Vista), right-click, and select "Format". This is all assuming that you have it connected to a Windows pc.
